Hey there I won a lot of cabaret Green Room Awards on Monday for ‘The Passion of Saint Nicholas’, my 2024 show. For Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Original Songs, Outstanding Artiste and Outstanding Production which is quite extraordinary.
'The Perfect Neighbor' blew my socks off at Melbourne International Film Festival last year. Incredibly astute editing (Viridiana Lieberman) and directing (Geeta Gandbhir), harrowing in its grief, legacy and honesty. It left me reeling, and I am so happy that it was nominated for an Oscar.

In an effort to improve my discipline (also bc I am sick of spruiking live shows to prove I write) I started the writer's equivalent of a podcast. It's free. Still working on the discipline part (regularity). It's hopefully funny & defs short. This week's about chips.

Zombie kids, I did not like 28 Years Later, it felt like set up to me, silly in parts - as if a producer ordered 2 films instead of 1 (aka The Hobbit Protocol). BUT. Jack O'Connell turning up at the end as a bizarre Jimmy Savile post-apocalyptic gang leader made me go WHEEEERE WAS THIS EARLIER (1/2)

Watching Pauline Hanson talk about antisemitism is like that time a drunk guy at a club yelled at me that he was a feminist and then grabbed my tit and said "honk".

What’s the point of writers’ festivals — or, for that matter, writers — if they can’t discuss issues that matter? Australian arts administrators would rather destroy the whole sector than allow Palestinians to speak about genocide. It’s beyond shameful.

Listening to Dire Straits doing ‘Sultans of Swing’ in Paris 1981 - every opening for a lick is seized, the groove is unrelenting. And I wish so so much I could resurrect my brother and go “CHECK THIS OUT” and share that beautiful joy that music brings youtu.be/cHaSjHjhUtc?...

The grief of Port Arthur still hangs heavy over Tas, and I shudder to think how much worse that would be if leaders acted then how they are now. #auspol #taspol
Amid the anger and grief of Port Arthur, it took just 12 days for Australia’s political leaders to come together to pass gun control laws. Why is the unity of that time eluding them now?
Political responses to the Port Arthur and Bondi massacres are wildly different — but unity is still possible

A story I found about Haiti:

In 1999, a group of Haitians were tired of political disorder and dreamed of a better life in the United States. So they built a small, 23-foot boat by hand using pine trees, scrap wood, and used nails. They called the boat "Believe in God."

Tony Wright notes the political blame gaming in responses of Sussan Lee et al to the horrendous Bondi tragedy and recalls the Port Arthur massacre, where leaders of all Australia’s major political parties mourned together and took Australia with them.

Australia is not a nation familiar with massacre on its streets, and we must never become one
Australian political leaders must act together to harness the national shock and mourning to lead the country out of this cultural and religious quagmire.

What a terrible human Netanyahu is.

Why would anyone want to hear deliberately divisive and inflammatory rhetoric of a wanted war criminal, human rights criminal, liar…?

We want calm, reasoned, inclusive, respectful comments to unite us.

Peace to all.
