It's Wrensday Wednesday!
So here's one of my favourite fairywren photos from 2025. Not one, but four white-winged fairywrens at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden, Port Augusta.

Our country is gone. My family has endured bigotry for decades, but now I’m broken
A Jewish family like mine knows that Australia has antisemitism running in its blood.

Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

Your correspondent (Letters, ″⁣Not only in America″⁣, 16/12) should point out to his American friends that when they can count the number of mass shootings in 30 years on one hand, they can discuss the complexities of Australian gun violence. I do.

I wish Shaun Carney's thoughtful measured words were accessible to all. They are sorely needed, in this crisis, where those, who n should know better, are prepared to use their microphones to divide rather than unite the community.

Shaun Carney : The Coalition needs to be careful as it uses this rotten situation to score political points. I doubt that most Australians want to see it. Or live through it. www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...
Howard has gone too far. His comments about Albanese tear us apart
Slagging off the man entrusted with trying to steer the nation through this powerfully difficult moment will not help John Howard’s side of politics.

If the last three days demonstrate one thing, it's that the right (via the media) controls the narrative in this country.

The conservatives forces using the Bondi Massacre to instigate a crackdown of freedoms of speech and the right to assembly are completely disgusting.

Protesting genocide and the actions of the Netanyahu Israeli govt are not antisemitic.
