Most of these think pieces about Adelaide completely miss the point. There is a genocide in progress. If you’re curating a festival of ideas, do you want people who talk about supporting the genocide or speakers who talk about opposing it? Everything else is secondary.

I wrote a piece for @crikey.com.au on how we should be talking about MAGA anti-semitism www.crikey.com.au/2026/01/15/m...
The bigotry deep within the MAGA movement is infecting our politics
The bigotry spreading out from Donald Trump’s MAGA movement should be part of the post-Bondi discussion of antisemitism in Australia.

These organisations working in the public domain should have a responsibility to publicise their decisions. Make the minutes available! Show who voted for what and why!

I gotta say, I'm not jazzed by the apology for "how the decision was represented" and "the distress this decision has caused" rather than apologising for the decision itself

Morry Schwartz "navigates a complex and unprecedented moment" by blaming Louise Adler for the implosion of Adelaide Writers’ Week, claiming it was an act of deliberate sabotage on her part to invite Randa Abdel-Fattah to appear.

Welp, the Chaser's article on the Adelaide Writer's Week, calling it the Adelaide Writer's Afternoon, has infiltrated the Edge AI summary. 'Hilariously', the AI summary combines the parody article with real news, so it could very easily trick people not in the know.

I'm sure Szego thinks she's making a point here but her writing's so bad it's hard to work out what it is. 'The usage by the man on the Clapham omnibus is normalised at top universities,' or something.

Looking at that guest list it seems most unlikely they’ll have a festival now. They must have known that but they did this anyway
What’s the point of writers’ festivals — or, for that matter, writers — if they can’t discuss issues that matter? Australian arts administrators would rather destroy the whole sector than allow Palestinians to speak about genocide. It’s beyond shameful.

The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory explicitly names the Israeli President as responsible for inciting genocide — and yet Albanese is inviting him here. Shameful and scandalous!
