Some micro-reviews of books I have read over the last few months, not counting the multiple Georgette Heyer re-reads (a coping mechanism). Mostly novels, because writing a literary PhD ruined me for novels, and it’s taken me a decade to really enjoy them again.

Starting with…
I had a very nice time writing about this new/old shipwreck found down at Point Lonsdale
Look what the tide brought in: shipwreck found on Victorian beach may have lain there for a century
Only half of the 660 known wrecks in the state have ever been found, so the discovery of a timber vessel poking out of the sand is exciting archaeologists and locals alike

It’s ludicrous and insulting to suggest that the richest university in Australia can’t afford the two part-time wages to run Meanjin.
Also: did they even try to save it? Donation drive? Philanthropic efforts? Offering it to another institution?
No.
The university council shut it down intentionally.

One of the many devastating things about making this video was that we had to update it about three times during the making to account for further killings of journalists, including (you'll see at the end) a special mention of the 6 Al Jazeera journalists targeted by Israel. Please watch to the end.
Targeting journalists is a war crime.
As colleagues, we remember them.
