As a quick update, I believe that we'll soon have a deluge of candidates for the South Australian election. The Greens and AJP have their campaign launches next week, One Nation and Legalise Cannabis have begun looking for candidates, and the SA Socialists have their conference soon.

Sarah Game's anti-abortion bill has been defeated in the Legislative Council 8-11. I've done a quick summary of it, as well as who voted for/against, on the SA politics tracker below.

As a reminder, there is an ongoing debate in SA's legislative council around a private member's bill to ban late-term abortions. In a horrific grift, Dr Joanna Howe of UofA has made a 'game' of the words that might be said by pro-choice politicians.

I forgot to mention this last week, I was so busy it slipped my mind, but my podcast has (finally) hit 100 episodes (101 as of today)! It's been a journey, and I am nowhere near done, but I am just very grateful for everyone who listens to the episodes every.

The original version of Taylor Swift’s ‘Style’ was about the superiority of the Chicago Manual of Style for notes and referencing, but eventually she was convinced that this was not commercial enough. When the Manual reaches its 20th edition, she may release ‘Style (Chicago version)’ to celebrate.

Figured I'd do similar for the SA federal redistribution that's ongoing and summarise the party/political individual submissions. It'll be a longer thread, so check it out below

#saparli 🧵
Redistribution initial submissions for Tas are up:

Party positions:

ALP - Clark takes Kingston and Kingston Beach
Lib - Clark takes Bridgewater, Gagebrook etc
Greens- primary option as per Labor, also suggests committee consider Clark = Hobart City and south, Franklin takes Glenorchy.

Writing about Australian history and aiming for an international journal, so having to include a lot more contextual detail about everything than what one might need if discussing North American or UK/European stuff. Making my word count higher!
2. Australia and New Zealand history doesn’t have to justify its relevance for a wider audience to be published in a journal published in US or Europe

I've finally finished recording the political histories of all 1400+ candidates at the 2025 federal election. This includes every previous elections all the candidates have contested, their various party affiliations, and whether they won their seat. It was an undertaking, but a fun one.

It gets so much worse when you dive abit deeper. If you break it down by gender (see below), nearly 50% of women polled were 'unsure', meaning that not a single Liberal politician appealed to them as a potential leader. Horrific stuff for the LNP.
