Some of you may be interested in this symposium on 'truth-telling' (in its many guises) being held at the University of Melbourne this week. Students and mob can attend for free, Unimelb staff get a 20% discount, and unwaged scholars get a 75% discount. I will be there for some of Friday's sessions!

this piece is infuriating. disabled people are being paid a few dollars an hour - this has to change, yet the focus here is on well paid non-disabled people, pontificating about things that are not true.

While this is absolutely true, some of us are a different brand of insufferable where we mumble that it is in fact Beltane in the southern hemisphere not Samhain, however it's also quite fun to fuse the two sabbats into a twice-yearly fire/vegetable/spooky transitional melange
As it's October and the 'Halloween as an imported American thing' discourse has begun, I thought I'd mention that in Australia, the Scottish diaspora, especially in the first half of the 20th century, celebrated Halloween as a particular Scottish tradition, as attested to by many articles on Trove.
