Frightful hobgoblin
I wrote a piece for @deepcutnews about how the media sees some genocides as more important than others

The Age called out the Myanmar genocide. Why not Gaza's?
The paper's treatment of the Palestinians reeks of double standards.

Hard not to feel you’re going insane watching confirmation after confirmation of an ongoing genocide

Solidarity with @Dave_Brophy. All universities should oppose genocide!

Sydney Uni has a ‘thirteen page flag policy’, which they used to stop @Dave_Brophy from protesting against genocide.

More concerned with ‘social cohesion’ than stopping a live-streamed genocide. The most extraordinary moral failure in a generation.
The anti-genocide movement has been driven by below: activists rather than bureaucrats, people rather than NGOs, students rather than professors, etc. Almost without exception, the top echelons of society have tried to stop the protests, not the genocide.

Here is the current list of places sanctioned by Australian universities using DFAT’s list of countries designated for human rights abuses etc. It is disgraceful that none of the unis have the moral fortitude to add Israel to that list in the context of an ongoing genocide.

Now that a court has made this entirely obvious point perhaps even the universities can understand it.

All the mayhem in the world makes books feel like indulgences. Nevertheless, I’m chuffed to be doing Somewhere Here the Future’s Hid: The Life of Lesbia Harford with @monashuniversity.bsky.social some time next year.
