Today's ruling on the EHRC's interim guidance is a disappointing, confusing and mixed picture.

A trans woman who is a customer in a café can use the women's toilets, but if she works there she might not be able to.

Once again everyday life is being made a legal labyrinth for trans people.

In incredible news, the European Parliament has voted overwhelmingly for "The Full Recognition Of Trans Women As Women."

Even the center-right European People's Party voted for the declaration.

It will form a foundation for their position at the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Our latest.
European Parliament Votes Overwhelmingly For "The Full Recognition Of Trans Women As Women"
The resolution, though nonbinding, is a significant shot at those who seek to erode transgender rights on the continent.

We've written to Bridget Phillipson to point out she's legally obliged to reject the EHRC's draft guidance

The Government committed in its manifesto to “remove indignities for trans people”. We're asking that they take steps to protect the trans community & correct what the Supreme Court got wrong

Really well put: “The developing organism accretes information as it builds itself.”

Increasingly I am coming around to the perspective that nothing in genetics makes sense except in the light of cell biology.
A key point: development is *constructive*. The full information about the final product is not contained in the genome. The developing organism accretes information as it builds itself.

IMHO any council that declared a climate emergency shd be forced to approve all planning applications for sustainability, renewable energy etc by default. A friend had to take West Ox to the High Court to be allowed to put solar panels on his farm. Of course they declared a climate emergency too 🙄

Delighted to see that the Climate Emergency declared by Cherwell Council in 2019 is presumably now over, so no need for woke green nonsense like this... 🫠
Cherwell District Council has rejected a proposal for a battery box micro energy storage facility. Battery boxes store energy from the network at periods of low demand to be used at periods of high demand. Officers stated it would be a ‘Visually incongruous and obtrusive form of development’

We (trans safety network) met with Cass during her research on the Cass review and explained how clearly ridiculous it would be to try and bring haircuts and self expression under the authority of being a "medical intervention".

She went away from that meeting and produced this crap anyway.
Anyone who had genuine concerns about youth gender medicine would staunchly and wholeheartedly support social transition. Let kids explore their identities to see what works for them!

The fact that this movement opposes even pronouns and haircuts shows that it's just bigotry all the way down.
This draft guidance reproduces Cass insisting that clinicians must be involved in decisions about *social transition* which actually should be none of their damn business

They take the line that this "non-directive" intervention should force things to be "keeping options open and flexible"...

There are a lot of similarities between how UK universities and UKRI are run. In both cases, big decisions are taken and changes made without consultation and often with dire consequences for the academic community and with little to no transparency around decisions, their impact or alternatives.
It's been a busy couple of weeks covering the funding changes at UKRI, to put it mildly

Here are my thoughts on how it's played out

TL;DR...the message that curiosity-driven research is protected is not going to reassure those who are seeing their funding streams disrupted
Rhetoric on UKRI’s funding reforms offers cold comfort - Research Professional News
Messaging that curiosity-driven research is protected is hard to square with funding reductions and pauses
