On International Women’s Day, I’ve been thinking about my mum (on the left, taken nine years ago) and my nan (taken in the 1970s). Despite neither thinking of themselves as feminists, by their words and deeds they considered themselves equal to men. That had a huge influence on me growing up.

I’ve been coming to
Edinburgh for years and years, and have never visited Topping And Company Booksellers until today. It’s a proper bookshop - like the ones from my childhood. Recommended. Look at this haul! The natural history section is fantastic!
