A horrendous report on ABC radio from a Brisbane doctor doing a second tour in Gaza with Medecins sans Frontières. She says the ceasefire is in name only, the genocide continues and the deprivation of basic food, shelter and resources means even the injured haven’t what the need to heal.

I often spot a platypus in the creek at Braidwood.
Thrilled to see this big fat #platypus (check out that tail) foraging in #Hobart Rivulet. Wildlife in cities is a wonderful thing - we need to make all cities more #wildlife friendly (as well as protecting large areas of intact #native bush). Yay for #monotremes! #naturewriting #australianwildlife

Joseph Dalton Hooker was Darwin’s first confidant when he was secretly developing his (then) theory of natural selection as the driver of evolution. Primarily a botanist, Hooker was also an explorer and an early mountaineer.
These images appear in J. D. Hooker’s work after the Transit of Venus expedition to Kerguelen islands in 1874-1875, recounting the species described through all expeditions to date. Hooker himself visited the islands with Ross expedition of 1839-1843.

The discovery of a horned native bee that pollinates a rare plant highlights how little we know about Australian pollinators.

See what it's like to drive across the vastness of Australia.

Here's my vid of a 13 day, 4,640 km trip from NSW to WA. (NY to LA is just 4,527 km).

If you've never visited Aust, or if you're thinking of doing the overland, I hope you'll like it ... (44 mins).

This Australian Fur Seal is having a nice little snooze. I've watched them do this in a swell, off a rocky shore, by anchoring themselves in floating kelp. The world's biggest fur seal, they mostly eat squid, octopus, fish and lobsters & can dive to 200m. #WildOz #seals #AustralianWildlife

At the Christian prayer breakfast this week, Attorney-General Michelle Rowland said that the “principles and values that Jesus lived by underpin the role of Australia’s first law officer” and claimed that “our values and faith” guide lawmakers. Read more: rationalist.com.au/australias-a...

Now there’s a great idea! And the panels should be used to provide free or cheap charging for electric cars, especially if it was a shopping centre car park. #AusPol
Australia is one of the sunniest places on earth.

Cover every car park with solar panels. Provide shade and cool the cars at the same time as producing electricity.
