Profile of K T Achaya, the scientist and food historian, by Ram Guha. Achaya was my grandmother's cousin, and beloved in the family. Not normally a fan of Guha, but this piece is a lovely and loving homage to a fine person.

US COVID SHOTS ARE FREE.

Please do not let Walgreens and CVS mislead you or your family members or neighbors about this! They are the biggest part of the federal bridge (free shots for uninsured people) program, but the rollout’s logistics have been a little scattered and you may get pushback.
PSA: the CDC has a program that pays for your COVID vaccine if your insurer won't. The guy at CVS told me that my insurer had not added the new vaccine to its formulary yet, so I'd need to pay $190. I told him about this program, showed him the website, and paid nothing. 🤗

The correct answer has to be a cover version that completely obliterates the original. So: Amy Winehouse, "Valerie."

Also (though I think it only exists on YouTube) I have a soft spot for Fiona Apple's cover of "The Whole of the Moon."

6 people have died in custody this year alone. Fuck cops, shut down jails.

Someone told me that this app may seem very empty because of this default setting that requires replies to have 2 likes or more before they show up.

Indeed! I changed it so that all replies show up, and suddenly the place seems much more lively. I highly recommend changing it in your settings.
