“A staffer” 🤔So will they name and fire this mystery staffer? Or do they think we are all morons?

Imagine buying this excuse. Especially after they already defended it.

JD gives always gives vibes of "performing" the role of VP, much like Ted Cruz always seems to be "performing" the role of Senator. I say this as someone who's spent thousands of hours in casting. The acting tells. The indicating. I don't believe them. They give new meaning to the term "bad actor."

The global order cannot survive a president who treats sovereign nations like real‑estate listings. Donald Trump’s worldview is a direct threat to alliances, stability, and the basic rules that keep the world from sliding into chaos.

The Founding Fathers always knew a king-like tyrant would try to rule as dictator and use the powers of the presidency to live above the law.
But they never foresaw a government branch abdicating oath for cravenness and grift, nor foresaw algorithmic media controlling citizens thru obvious deceit.

The most important thing to remember about all this fantasy-engineering of the Constitution is Madison's warning: If we suck as a people, no clever constitutional schemes will save us.

Matt makes a critical point. The pain of the shutdown was seriously ramping up while pressure on Republicans had yet to really build. They were losing in polls but not by a margin that would cause them to abandon Trump or Thune.

Very skeptical Dems would have won much more by holding out longer.

"Republicans (and Joe Manchin) don’t attack SNAP and UBI because the programs are failures. They attack them because the programs are successful, and conservatives hate the idea that some poor person somewhere may be experiencing autonomy, freedom, or joy."
There's extensive evidence that just giving poor people money is very effective public policy. The moral panic over what ppl buy with SNAP is about sadism and entitlement. the wealthy enjoy policing and tormenting those they see as their inferiors. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/republican...

If (knock on wood) Dems sweep Tuesday’s elections handily, can we ease discourse away from its obsession over whether Dems are too left wing to win, and take greater notice of the fact that Republicans are in a civil war over whether to be Nazis or merely lesser fascists?
Exploit The GOP's Nazi Meltdown
Are we really going to accept the conceit that the central issue in politics is whether DEMOCRATS are too extreme?

It still boggles my mind that so many people couldn't grasp last year how significantly more morally depraved a second Trump term would be in comparison to the first. And how so many people still can't comprehend that our national crisis isn't about politics, but simple morality.

You are right as usual Representative.
I get a real chuckle out of Republicans saying year after year they are coming up with a health care plan, but never actually showing us what it is.
Republicans gutted Medicaid. Now they want to gut the ACA too. That’s their health care plan.

When Democrats and Republicans face off about soaring health care costs and food for the working poor, Republicans have a distinct advantage because they just don't give a damn.

I hope it's clear to everyone now that Trump really is going for it - he's trying to become a dictator. I don't know if he'll succeed, but he's working to install himself as an autocrat unaccountable to voters. And he's weaponizing the military against Americans who oppose him as part of that effort

The president isn't supposed to order TV shows off the air.
The president isn't supposed to order the murders of people on the high seas with no legal process.
The president isn't supposed to order criminal charges against people he doesn't like.
That's what fascist dictators do.

I think media and many Dems are brainlocked into treating Trump as a politically strong figure because they mistake the consolidation of autocratic power for political invincibility.

But we shouldn't do that. He's both an autocrat and a ludicrous, inept figure. 5/

Democratic voters don’t want passive or “reach across the aisle” politics while we are fighting literal fascism.

Look at Texas Democrats. Fight like that. We’ll reward you at the polls.

Stand up. Link arms. Draw a line in the sand. Tell the Republicans we won’t put up with this shit. Fight back.

I don't think we're in a democracy anymore. Unmarked secret police kidnapping people off the street? A dictator mobilizing the military against civilians? Defying court orders? Ignoring due process? Arresting political opponents? Democracy has left the building. We CAN & MUST get it back, though.
We are facing a serious threat to democracy, law, and liberty. The abuse of prosecutorial power to intimidate, investigate, and detain political opponents is upon us. It is a constitutional crisis. I will keep speaking out until public outrage overflows. I just hope it’s not too little, too late.

It's pretty obvious that a lot of US mainstream media either doesn't recognise authoritarianism or doesn't want to call it out. Either way, it's an excellent way to destroy trust in your institution.

It's easy to blame Biden for everything. But voters in 2024 had a choice between Trump and Harris and most of them were some combination of delusional, apathetic, racist, sexist, and dumb that they voted for the guy who almost wrecked the country before. So I'm gonna blame those assholes, not Biden.
