Given that the last recorded King of Strathclyde (fl. 1018) was called Owain Foel, I think there's good cause—in this otherwise excellent plan for replacing English in Britain—for letting the Brythonic languages go a fair bit further north than Liverpool!

It’s been a pleasure working with Lex and everyone in the politics vertical at Teen Vogue. I’m heartbroken that my column, Disability Visibility, is gone. Teen Vogue was one of the few places that published disabled journalists regularly. I just spent the last 2 months working on my next column
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

This is horrifying! I have a degree in German and Russian from Nottingham. And I went there because it was in many respects a leading light in modern languages. This is incredibly short-sighted and idiotic.
I am hearing that @uniofnottingham.bsky.social is suspending (i.e shutting down) *all modern language courses* in 2026-27. One of the largest departments in the UK. A shocking short sighted move that damages regional and national prospects @britishacademy.bsky.social @hetanshah.bsky.social
