have to put an addendum to this post. ao3 is the only website that also hasn't gotten worse. it also hasn't changed at all and does not chase trends. simply delivers a functional service to an audience. lesson to be learned in that.
for the last five to ten years every website has gotten worse. publications shifted to video, search engines broke, forums abandoned, and social media turned hostile to users. this website is, so far, actually good. does what it advertises doing. no nonsense.
