what will make my head explode though is the implicit assumption that the man with the gun was not the one who was supposed to deescalate the situation.
Today is going to be a bad day for use of the exonerative tense

When the trans person or immigrant becomes “niche”,
When the person demanding racial, gender, religious or economic equality becomes “niche”
You have removed their humanity.
And it’s easy to remove human rights from those who aren’t listed as human.
And it gets easier to keep expanding that list.

When you complain that democracy is under threat from Nazis because “too many niche groups” are demanding the same rights you have - you understand neither democracy nor the history of Nazis.

btw, this is why marriage equality is meaningful. this is why i balk at people saying it's nothing but privileged cis gays assimilating. trans couples, immigrant couples, couples with kids, couples with assets where one is sick or unwell or dies, couples where somebody needs hospital visiting rights

The woman killed by ICE today was a poet. She won the 2020 Academy of American Poets, University & College Poetry Prize at Old Dominion University.

(And this is Renee from confirmed socials- a photo of a different woman with red lipstick is going around, but that was a classmate.)

This glib statement is all the more risible when you recall how many law enforcement officers used their vehicles as weapons against protesters in 2020... and how many Republican-dominated states *sought to legalize killing protesters with vehicles* as a reaction to the demonstrations
Noem: "People need to stop using their vehicles as weapons ... it's clear that it's being coordinated. People are being trained"

I handle medical records for my job and they have to be treated as sensitive, confidential information. Nothing gets left out where someone can see it. Paper records are securely shredded. Digital information has to be locked down.

Do not, DO NOT feed your medical records into an AI.

When DHS shot Miramar Martinez in Chicago last October, they also claimed she tried to ram agents with her car. Because she survived, they even charged her criminally.

They lied. She had done no such thing, and the goon who shot her bragged about it in texts. They dropped the charges against her.
Feds Dismiss Charges Against Woman Shot by Border Patrol Agent in Brighton Park
Texts from the Border Patrol agent who fired at Martinez revealed he apparently bragged about the shooting to others, stating in one message that he’d “fired 5 rounds and she had 7 holes. Put that in ...

This is a longstanding issue for Ds/anti-Rs. A prob thats been revealed in polling/focus groups etc is that voters will literally not believe you when you tell them point blank what Republican plans & policy goals are. They frequently sound to cartoonishly awful to them to be plausible. Not great!
I think a big problem is that Trump is such a bullshitter that the average American will think Dems are over reacting until Trump actually does the crazy thing he does.

So just found out that Audible have silently removed six audiobooks from my library. Because I noticed, and complained, they gave six credits to buy them back again. They did this because the publishers updated the books and Audible just deleted the old versions.

Democrats need to understand that they can just say “It’s insane to threaten Greenland” and “I don’t think ICE should murder Americans in the street” and you don’t need to pretend to link it to the affordability crisis.

Say bad things are bad.

FYI, on the Minneapolis shooting video: Bluesky hasn't taken it down. It's been labeled as "graphic media" so that people can avoid it if they choose.

You can change your personal settings on whether you see media labeled as graphic (or whether it appears with a warning) here: bsky.app/moderation
Are people unable to watch this now bc it's been tagged as graphic media? Because this is newsworthy and important and that seems like a problem to me.

It's not, like, "activists and online people are screaming their heads off"! This is a "the mayor is saying 'fuck' on tv kind of situation." People are so used to going up to eleven immediately in every political situation they don't recognize the real "go to eleven now" moments when they happen.
