Great piece by astronomer and SETI leader Jason Wright on the endless, exhausting claims about 3I/Atlas by Avi Loeb.

Loeb’s 3I/ATLAS “Anomalies” Explained
Avi Loeb continues to claim that 3I/ATLAS has many anomalous behaviors that lead to the conclusion that it “might” be an alien spacecraft.  He carefully hedges the probability that it is a spacecraft ...

I'm really happy that a combination of AI and Reddit led me to find the video of a short ad I was looking for. Courtesy of Computer Associates, no less, I think it perfectly captures some of the key issues with cybersecurity nowadays.

If you ask Rick Astley for his copy of the movie Up, he cannot give it to you as he will never give you Up. However, in doing so, he lets you down. Therefore it creates The Astley Paradox.

My latest incident of dropping-AirPods-in-airplane (though not really, I had just misplaced them) convinced me to switch to over-ear-type noise cancelling headphones for air travel. Not looking to spend a fortune. What do people recommend?

This, a million times over. They (sellers) also don’t mind if people conflate the high precision of specialized ML models with the scale of hallucinations coming out of current models.
Perhaps the biggest problem with LLMs is that many people don’t understand how they work and what the limitations are.

And that’s intentional on the part of the people who sell them. They want them to feel like magic.

Look at original thread for this. Scary.
I used to work for Wells Fargo. Yes it sucked. But one take away I tell everyone is to thank the caller, hang up, and immediately call your bank. If anyone calls from a bank do this. It is the only way to be sure. And don't call the number that called you. Call your official bank customer service.

On my way to RSA Conference, looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. Expecting a busy schedule and good conversations on security and AI, cloud/appsec synergy, security purchasing trends, and more. Apologies in advance for my bad face-name mapping skills…

It’s not about Katy Perry heading to space. It’s about how billionaires rebrand joyrides as “inspiration,” while real women in science lose jobs and visibility. Empowerment isn’t a press release, it’s opportunity, access, and recognition.

Urging all Canadians to make their voices heard in the current election. Advance polling is open until the 21st. We can’t do much about how other countries behave, but we can do our part to influence our own.

I’m seeing this more and more—on any number of topics, that showing emotion is weakness.

It absolutely is not. Caring is t weakness, expressing your feelings is a core part of being human.
there are plenty of fair criticisms of me but the one that actually annoys me is when people treat me like my anger about a situation reflects poorly on me somehow, that being emotional about the completely collapse of our democracy is somehow gauche and invalidates whatever i'm saying

Trump's entire shtick has always been "I will make you rich." It's what his TV show was, what his books and "university" were, and it's what his presidency is. It's all about the hope that if you support him and do what he does, you'll become him.

It's all a con. It always was. It always will be.

Today alone I have seen name-squatters for #ServiceNow, #SolarWinds, #Splunk, #Cisco, #Squadcast, and #Atlassian.

And anyone else who wants to protect their name/brand.

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad.

There’s not.
