AHEM everyone, we have a good idea here:
if preschool for all has more resources than it needs for universal preschool we should consider expanding to a full universal childcare program

Preschool for All is ending 2025 with a bang!💥📈💛✊Thanks to all of the advocates who helped make this happen!
Multnomah County announced today that it has offered 7,460 tuition-free Preschool for All seats to providers for the 2026-27 school year. This initial allocation has the potential to nearly double the current enrollment capacity of 3,844 seats.

More tuition-free preschool seats than expected likely coming to Portland-area next year
The news comes shortly after early data suggested the county program may need to hit a much smaller target to reach “universal” tuition-free preschool.

If she became a champion for it we could get out there & knock doors for her instead of writing mean responses to her fundraising emails & standing in the rain to yell at her & thwarting her & the ignorant ass Senate Finance Committee in Salem. Tim Boyle is never gonna knock doors for you Tina!!!!!

Over the past month, our coalition and our community came together to say, NO CUTS, NO COMPROMISES. Thank you for every email, phonecall, public comment, and PB&J assembly line for toddlers at evening meetings. Together, we won Preschool for All- AGAIN! The tax cuts are paused!

Let's take a look at some examples of how the Preschool For All tax works! 👀

It's a progressive revenue mechanism that will guarantee all these payers free preschool once the program goes universal, an average saving of $16,000 per year.✨

It was great to be in a room full of families and local leaders to say: we support Preschool For All! East Portland has the most families out of all the districts, so it’s very important to me that we keep growing PFA.

Some ppl are shouting about how the preschool for all tax is driving ppl out of Multco. Here’s some information data about what ppl pay. The cost of moving would be more than this tax. If you + partner’s taxable income is 270k, you owe $1k. No one is moving for $1000.

As the program grows, so will the benefits to this community. This is a strategic investment in our workforce, in affordability, in school performance – the things that matter most to families.

Preschool for All will help make Multnomah County a destination of choice for young & aspiring families.

I really loved this article about the benefits of childcare that go beyond “parents can work.” Preschool has had a huge benefit for our family even though I’m still at home with our younger kid. Ignoring these social benefits may encourage limiting universal childcare proposals to working parents.
Childcare Is Not Just an Economic Fix. It’s a Social Good.
Even strong defenders of childcare sometimes rely on the economic case that childcare programs keep workers in the labor force. While it’s not wrong, that argument misses the true role of childcare: s...
