Bucky would not abide sharing space with our departed cat Hal. If Hal was someplace Bucky wanted to be, Bucky would use “aggressive grooming” to make Hal vacate the space.

So, I am astonished that in less than a week we have reached this point with the kittens:

My in-laws took a stray cat in last September. The day it was scheduled to be spayed, she gave birth to four kittens. Sunday night, my brother-in-law arrived with a pair of two-month-old kittens for us. 1/2

Add the War of 1812 to the list.
We are retroactively losing the Civil War, WWII and the Cold War thanks to white identity politics.

Linked to this yesterday, but I am re-upping today because this is the best piece of practical research I have seen lately. It deals with what's gone wrong in political coverage.
"If we want different results, we have to abandon standard practice."

YES.

Finally, someone put together what I and many other critics have been saying about political coverage — then took it further. reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/harm-reducti...

I listened to the whole exchange between Ta-Nehisi Coates and Ezra Klein, and to the original "Charlie Kirk Was Practicing Politics the Right Way" column, and among the takes this piece is the best I have read. Long-ish, so set aside a bit of time. (Disclosure: I have been on Ezra's show...)
I really appreciated this thoughtful piece about Ta-Nehisi Coates & Ezra Klein. Andrea Pitzer says “lost” folks like Klein “don’t have a clear idea how this moment fits into history and what it is exactly that they’re doing”. [degenerateart.beehiiv.com]
You don’t have to swallow frogs
Klein and Coates show that if you don’t know what your core beliefs are, you’re going to get played.

Old Soviet joke for today:

A man walks into a newsstand every day, looks around, and leaves.

After a long time of this, the owner says “Can I help you find something?”

“I’m looking for the obituaries.”

“The obituaries are in the back of the newspaper, comrade.”

“Not the one I’m looking for.”

Wow. The University of Chicago, a world-class institution whose humanities faculty in the past has included Homi Bhabha & Lauren Berlant & Ralph Ellison & Hannah freaking Arendt, is getting rid of basically every graduate department involving the acknowledgment that other cultures & languages exist.

This is the definition of "uterus" as appears at the top of a Google search when you're looking to find the meaning of the word.

...and it contains a MAJOR factual inaccuracy. Let's explain exactly what is so wrong here.
