Smalls, the only Black flotilla member, appears to be the only one who has been treated this way
Gaza Freedom Flotilla has released statement that Black labour leader Chris Smalls (Amazon Labour Union) faced violence that no one else on Handala did. He has been severely beaten in Israeli custody.

Smalls follows in legacy of Black radical tradition for Palestine. Labour must stand for Smalls.

The first time Charlie Chaplin used his voice in a film, he wielded it to forcefully condemn the rising forces of fascism around the globe.

Will we listen to his words today?

The Glaring Issues No One Is Talking About In The Menendez Brothers Case
Amid a controversial Netflix series and high-profile support, the siblings convicted of murdering their parents may soon walk. But that could present a double standard.

This sums up all of the institutional rollbacks on DEIA in a nutshell: "I was reminded that symbolism, without substance, is always the first thing to go when power shifts...That what feels powerful in the moment can be undone with a single political calculation.": newsone.com/6072894/mayo...
Op-Ed: Bowser Gave Up The Mural. We Can’t Give Up The Movement
The presence of murals, parades, and “historic firsts” doesn’t always mean we’re moving forward. In fact, it’s often used to pacify us while the systems that harm us remain untouched.

WHEW and 🎯🎯🎯 at "leaving too many pale, stale (and, frankly, male) lawmakers in prominent positions."

Well said and APT.
Democrats built their entire party structure on polite deference, seniority, and chasing bipartisanship—as opposed to elevating the most talented and passionate politicians.

...Leaving too many pale, stale (and, frankly, male) lawmakers in prominent positions.
Primary Every Democrat
It’s exhausting to watch poll-tested, donor-beholden congressional Democrats continue to be too old, too cloistered, and too bumbling to do anything as the government burns.

An absolute travesty, but not a surprising one given MSNBC's history of atrociously treating Black anchors (Melissa Harris Perry, Tiffany Cross, etc.). Ever grateful that @joyannreid.bsky.social always spoke TRUTH to POWER & excited to support her next endeavor (while I gleefully boycott MSNBC).

And instead of Americans understanding that we’re now under imminent threat of martial law and tyranny, we’ll get a month of think pieces about what the President of the United States meant by his UNAMBIGUOUS statement.
This is fascism.

Fascinating profile of a park ranger in San Francisco who works with unhoused residents and has adopted the novel tactic of treating them like human beings, building relationships, and helping them access resources on their own timeline.
Her job is to remove homeless people from SF's parks. Her methods are extraordinary
Instead of forcing people out of Golden Gate Park, ranger Amanda Barrows helps them find housing.

In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here.
