Thinking about Lichdom as Unenlightened behavior in Mage The Awakening

like seeking immortality with magic isn't necessarily evil its just.... philosophically a bad idea

Bro is binding their soul eternal to the fallen world instead of seeking higher ones, cringe.

Given how intense the queer-coding of villainous characters has been in certain eras of media, it kind of makes me wonder whether the "one of them is short and fat and inarticulate and the other is tall and thin and uses big words incorrectly" thing was ever an MLM stereotype any point.

Annoyed about fighters again

I don’t even play dnd like that nowadays but the specter of fighter still haunts me

Fighter made sense when there was 3 classes, but if you are gonna turn spellcaster into 10 guys you also need to make fighter not Basically Every Sword Guy

Shoutout to when the charecter is turned, through one process or another, into a symbolically resonant monster form.

everyone loves the body horror that turns you into an expression of your worst self or truest self or whatever particular version it is.

One last thing before I log off for the day

I really like the new Femtanyl album "Man Bites Dog" and I think you(Yes You! The Person Reading This!) should listen to it.

The current TTRPG discourse did help me settle some of my opinions in pretty unique places I think, but I think I need to settle down and disengage at this point.

Kinda obsessed with Graves/Apollo deadlock right now

Crazy good M/F ship, the worlds most egotistical private schoolers....

*Mental break*

Wait, why in the fuck are merfolk usually skinny?

Like, grim, lean adventurers and soldiers on land, there's some sense going on with that, but a serious level of fat is SUPER EXTRA USEFUL in the water.

Fat merfolk, people.
fat merfolk fat merfolk fat merfolk fat merfolk

ya know what this TTRPG discourse has me in the mood for!

Locking in and getting back onto a good writing schedule

Not having a great day honestly

Three things I Geniunely enjoy about playing ttrpgs RAW

This will be a bit of a thread for me, but I hope this can convey some positions and ideas that I don’t really see anyone, not even other RAW oriented people making

Which is why it’s more fun for some people, including me!

I feel like this is the part of this sort of discourse that actually bothers me.

People in ttrpg discourse really like to Moralize the act of enjoying certain ways of making games or ways of playing games in ways that feel kinda yucky to me as a guy who just likes the *pretentious* playstyle
The pervasive, entrenched, and unexamined assumption that underpins huge swathes of the hobby to the effect of "nobody ever plays an RPG rules-as-written, if you do this you're a joyless deranged freak tyrant" feels very weird to me, as someone who has historically played most RPGs as-written

Had one of those time management anxiety dreams and it kinda fucked me up. And I was otherwise sleeping so good too

Homebrew is actually really cool to me because it exists in the "discussed before the game addition/alteration to the rules" space, especially homebrew that is designed to cling tightly to preexisting design conventions or explore them in interesting ways.
God sometimes I feel so pretentious about TTRPG stuff but also these are my Genuine Opinions and How I Best Have Fun.

"I don't like changing the rules of a game during play and prefer to have a justification ahead of time when I do"

My friends and I like playing with toys and don't wanna break em!

*sizzling up some fresh discourse* design embodies our own biases, even the subconscious ones. So it's no surprise that a game made by a bunch of cis white middle class men favors the class that is defined by "intelligence", academia, and preparation over physical prowess.

I was a child when the actual dnd 4e discourse and stuff was happening, but the philosophy of ttrpg design it helped inspire led to the creation of a lot of games I really enjoy and it influences my game design decisions(though I am even more extreme)

So I like dnd 4e getting its flowers.

4e annoys because it doesn't pretend that it's fighting-adventure rules are anything else and expects you to use rules as written. By not lying about itself, it fucks up the normal D&D process of pretending that it's good for other things, which pretence is *self-fulfilling* via quiet rulings.

The striking resemblance between the work of Lewis Carroll and the plot of a particularly player-hostile point-and-click adventure game is in small part due to former inspiring the latter, but MOSTLY due to the fact that that's just what happens when you let people who do math for fun write stories.

I feel like I am the type of person who would make most of the mistakes people skewer horror characters for making. I follow strange lights and sounds to secondary locations, I would definitely forget I could just log off if I was playing a haunted video game.

ALL MY HOMIES HATE FUN!!!
"Players seeking to have fun is bad for many games" is the opening statement of my latest post, where I argue that players should stop playing games trying to have fun, and instead let the game systems take them where they will, and trust that the fun will come.

Against Intent - Tangent Joy
Players seeking to have fun is bad for many games. I get frustrated, fairly often, with how people play games. It’s not a particularly serious

One of those “fantasy hero sent to our world” type stories but its a road trip movie where the fantasy hero insists they must visit USian oracle punxsutawney phil to ask for advice and all his friends from our world keep trying to talk him down from it.

And he is rewarded for his whimsy in the end.
