this is what I was trying to get at with my ranting yesterday - say whatever you want about like, the dsa international committee, but putting them on a level with policy makers in an actual presidency is completely insane. they just don't matter that much, and these guys do.
It would be good for the health of everyone if there was a bit more introspection on the part of the kinds of people who have actually achieved state power and then either squandered it or actively worsened the world in some respects with it.

100% and to extend it more broadly Republicans are really good at breaking conventions (including bad ones, even if for the wrong reasons) while Democrats are really good at preserving them, including bad ones.
This is really a stupid debate, as the essential problem is the the GOP is really good at starting wars and the Democrats are really bad at ending them.
Joe Biden was the best domestic policy Democrat since Lyndon Johnson. He was also the worst foreign policy Democrat since Lyndon Johnson.

Biggest issue with Bluesky for me is how little discussion there is of many global stories, like events in Yemen or Syria this week.
Mainly a low user base issue, but things are far too western centric on here. Or even just America centric tbh.

I guess the thing I'm sort of trying to say is that fundamentally it is a bit odd for me to see a claim that [fundamental feature of any authoritarian regime] could only have been learned from one specific authoritarian regime
