I had an awesome time reading my wedding horror story, Same Barn, Same Groom, from the recent anthology, The Joining, the other night on @storyhour.bsky.social!

@jameslsutter.bsky.social’s story was amazing!

If you want to hear our strangely linked stories, check out the recording :)
This week's Story Hour took us through loneliness and grief...and left us with love and healing. Phenomenal stories from Corey Farrenkopf and James L. Sutter. You can still watch! @coreyfarrenkopf.bsky.social @jameslsutter.bsky.social youtu.be/gxe2ydwm6IQ

In another big thing that happened this week, Oxford Soju Club was picked by the James Bond Book Club from Ian Fleming Publications

The James Bond Book Club Selection For January 2026 Is Oxford Soju Club | Ian Fleming
The next James Bond Book Club pick is Oxford Soju Club by Jinwoo Park. It’s a bold, genre-blending debut published in 2025 that reimagines the spy novel through the lens of identity, nationality, loya...

I never imagined that my book, which is so unapologetically Korean, would be marked in the tapestry of Canlit. In fact, the longlist is so multicultural this year.

And in times like this, when immigrant communities are being assaulted everywhere, this really shows the cultural leadership of Canada.

Finished THE SECRET SKIN by @wnwagner.bsky.social from @neonhemlock.bsky.social and it hit all the right notes for me. I love when a story makes it clear the goals it aims to achieve thematically and hits each of them with creative clarity.

Also, I noticed A LITTLE BIT EXTRA by Reilly Meehan had a kimchi, cheddar, and chive scone recipe so of course I had to try it! Delicious. #booksky #ewgc #cookbooks

And four titles I hope to get to real soon: can any title be better than Moss'd in Space? Molka and Accumulation are by authors whose prior novels I really loved. And yes, to all the gay detective novels! #ewgc #booksky

MY GRANDFATHER THE MASTER DETECTIVE by Masateru Konishi is often cozy as a school teacher trying to keep her grandfather's mind sharp by bringing him mysteries to solve. However, there's the sadness of her grandfather's worsening dementia and a decidedly un-cozy figure following her. #ewgc #booksky

THE MIDNIGHT TAXI by Yosha Gunasekera had be completely pulled in by the first chapter! A New York taxi driver's fare is somehow killed en route to the airport so she's the only suspect. With an earlier client's help -- a public defender and fellow Sri Lankan -- Siriwathi must solve the case! #ewgc

You'll need to read Dark Moon Shallow Sea if you plan to read David R Slayton's THE SILENT PATHS OF NIGHT. So get on that, then come back for queer epic fantasy exploring how complications from resurrecting a goddess of the dead affect world politics while a demon's spirit wreaks fiery mayhem. #ewgc

FIRST MAGE ON THE MOON by Cameron Johnston is inspiring and heartbreaking as mages appropriate war funds to fly to the moon where the gods are supposed to dwell. Think a non-cozy Legends and Lattes crossed with The Martian as the characters develop magical aerospace engineering. #ewgc #boosky

A MIDNIGHT PASTRY SHOP CALLED HWAWOLDANG by Lee Onhwa is out next week and is a pretty sweet, if sad, Korean healing fiction where spirits of the dead share their stories and get a little treat for themselves and a loved one before (hopefully) moving on towards reincarnation. #ewgc #booksky

Should have realized from the title this book would make me cry for like five different good reasons at the end. 😅 It was completely amazing and an absolutely perfect story about a grandmother helping her granddaughter embrace her queerness by sharing her twisty journey to self acceptance. #booksky

Wow. My library just locked down all PTO for my department this summer. Curious how this aligns with their claims that they care about work-life balance and such.

My last read of 2025 and first of 2026. Before midnight: immensely weird queer horror/mystery with monsters and more. After midnight: queer epic fantasy full of adventure, tension, and a really tender romance as they try to find balance for the world, the gods, and demons. #booksky
