“Look on my werks, ye bitches, and DESPAIR!” —Aurora Thunder, at the height of her successful debut at the Darkness and Light Ball

…Aurora swept down the catwalk like an oncoming storm, trains of filmy black fabric trailing her like thunderheads.

Facet gasped…

My Bluesky settings decided to turn off the requirement for images to have alt text before posting, all by themselves. Might be worth folks checking their own settings to make sure that is enabled.

Loving THE VILLA, ONCE BELOVED by Victor Manibo so far! It's got a killer opening that just pull you in completely. It's got these perfect modernized gothic vibes of a young woman being pulled into the curses of a rich family in the Philippines. #ewgc #booksky

TO RIDE A RISING STORM by Moniquill Blackgoose is a fantastic follow up to To Shape a Dragon's Breath, further exploring the alternate North America... with dragons that may alter how Europe's colonial ambitions fare. #ewgc #booksky

I think Anderson's STRANGE ANIMALS will be a great read for folks missing classic, environmentally aware urban fantasies. After Green's death is reversed, he's compelled to live the city for the mountains where he becomes an apprentice "cryptonaturalist" trying to understand mysterious deaths. #ewgc

I really loved this collection!
A perfectly marvelous collection!

@theodoragoss.bsky.social delights in LETTERS FROM AN IMAGINARY COUNTRY, a new collection in conversation with folklore, Victorian lit, classics of genre fiction, & the human spirit of creativity. Lyrical and lovely: a highlight of my autumn as the weather turns.

Viral posts about how Moms For Liberty had zero wins on election night...aren't true. They're misinformation, even dis-info.

M4L did have a number of school board candidates win. You can verify that information pretty easily.

They had *A LOT* of losses and their power isn't what it once was.

2/3 of the way through "Asunder" by @kerstinhall.bsky.social, and it's been a phenomenal read. In healthier, less busy times, I would 100% commit myself to making a song for this book on the next LS album, but for now I must ask you all to check out her work and this novel. Exceptional writing.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Today on Bar Cart Bookshelf we're talking about THE EVERLASTING by Alix E. Harrow. A time looping fantasy of ferocious lady knights & the nervy chain-smoking scholars who love them: folklore amid fascism. Fierce, clever, & impassioned. Our drink is Valiance, beneath the yew tree.

I'm starting to wonder if it's my duty as a librarian to read Fourth Wing... The number of people I meet out and about who want to talk about it when they find out what I do is astounding!
