I reached the Gauntlet of Shar and my interest just abruptly petered out. I missed a lot of Act 1 in my first playthrough so it was fun to play it again, even so soon...but I was thorough about Act 2 so it's now feeling tedious.

i saw someone say re: halftime show yesterday "i miss when halftime shows were just fun, not a big statement" and it's honestly haunting me. what part of what you just watched was not fun. was it the dancing. the wall to wall hotties. the actual honest to god WEDDING.

I have a friend (older), a Hungarian living in Romania, who was arrested at age 2 and sent to a camp. He wrote in an essay about how after Ceaușescu was gone, he found the records of his arrest listing him-- a 2 year old!-- as an enemy of the state, and said, "Nothing is more surreal than reality."

So, when I write YA, I always get a lot of editorial pressure to ensure that the characters have agency over everything that's happening...but I have never heard that feedback when I write for adults. I don't think it's because my adult characters are naturally less passive.

I am playing Baldur's Gate 3 again immediately after just playing it (I'll keep going until it feels tedious, anyway) and it is honestly a whole different game when you know how to play the game before you play the game

when I did the programming for Yallfest I liked to throw contemp authors on worldbuilding panels and a surprising number of them insisted they don't do any worldbuilding, which...I mean, no, everyone does worldbuilding, but also, just watch Veronica Mars and you'll get what I mean

I have never gotten a more difficult-to-figure-out note on a manuscript than "this character's grief is not working well in this section"-- I completely agree with it and do not know how to fix it and do not understand this character after loss. It's kind of exciting? Puzzle-solving brain activated!
