Dogs should be safe, legal, and rare
It's correct that we let the same ideology ruling Iraq control America too. That ideology is called the "Coalition Provisional Authority"
who else remembers when the sadrists adopted a free bus in Iraq policy
Oh, Dort. GWOT vet here. The kick in the nuts was a President attempting to overthrow the Constitutional order, not citizens freely casting votes for their preferred candidate, regardless of my desired outcome. Might want to dust off that oath you claim to live by.

my liberal teachers didn't expound on it but there were obvious cues they gave if you knew were to look; my conservative teachers would compare Michelle Obama's lunch programs to Leninism
One teacher told us “apartheid was good for S Africa;” another lectured that FDR “ruined the country” by making Americans “lazy;” yet another wld force us to watch Alan Greenspan lectures and preface them by saying “now that’s a smart Jew” (the teacher ofc was not Jewish)

I've seen guys in camo with assault rifles at almost every metro stop I've been to in the past few weeks. It's true the main thing they do is "stand around twiddling their thumbs" but they are everywhere and it's extremely not normal!
No — Yglesias is right about this. If you go to Union Station or the 9 other stations where National Guard units are deployed, yes, you will definitely see guard units there. Sometimes they are on the Mall or doing checkpoints but it's random. You can absolutely go a normal day without seeing any
Hey, @mattyglesias.bsky.social, have you literally just not left your apartment?

They’re in every single metro station, all over the mall, and doing checkpoints on 14th and U. DHS is all over Hispanic neighborhoods and harassing uber drivers.

You genuinely cannot not see this. Go outside.

my very spicy take is that this phenomenon is at least as much about who's getting CS majors as the tech labor market
"...graduates in computer science, computer engineering and graphic design all have unemployment rates at 7% or greater; young workers who hold a number of much-maligned humanities degrees—including English, history and philosophy—are all more hirable."
I didn’t find any of the explanations for what’s going on with the bad job market for new college grads satisfying, so I spent a week trying to figure out what was up and what it means for the larger economy. Turns out it’s not AI! Gift link: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

When did Van Hollen learn ball
The American people deserve to know the truth about the investigations into Jeffrey Epstein — including all evidence and any co-conspirators of his horrific crimes.

Today I introduced an amendment before the Appropriations Committee demanding transparency. It passed unanimously.

If i lived in NYC this alone would have me ranking Lander #1
THIS JUST HAPPENED: Brad Lander walked through the fire, got burned, and came back with a fucking gasoline can.

ICE arrested him — now he’s escorting migrants right past them, again. Most politicians wouldn’t show up. He showed out.

My tip for an inexpensive vacation: bicycle from Pittsburgh to Washington DC, fueled entirely by gas station snacks
Don't go into debt to go on vacation! You can do vacation-y things at home: Hit up a public pool, read a book in your backyard, visit a local museum, eat ice cream always, have a cocktail on the porch, go out for a seafood dinner, take a day trip to a cool place! @michellesingletary.bsky.social

Almost a third of Americans say they’ll take on debt this summer for vacation. Here’s how to return home with memories, not financial remorse.

Andor is in many ways a show about contemporary politics but the thing its critiquing isn't gridlock lmfao
Beneath all the laser blasters and X-wing spaceships on Disney+’s “Andor,” you’ll find some of the most trenchant mainstream critique of contemporary political gridlock on TV, @chaykak.bsky.social writes.
How “Andor” Injects Contemporary Politics Into “Star Wars” I.P.
Beneath all the laser blasters and X-wing spaceships, Tony Gilroy’s miniseries spinoff is a twisting tale of radicalization.

my cables will not be "managed"

I love all cables equally. each is empowered to roam freely in pursuit of self-directed goals, articulating a personality of its own. that's not a tangle, it's a statement.

cable management is a tool of the oppressor.

In terms of length I think this describes the majority of bike lanes in the US
Losing my shit at this unprotected bike lane on an eight-lane road with multiple lanes’ worth of scorched grass between it and the sidewalk, I guess reserved for road expansion

The DOJ was literally created to deal with violent gangs who targeted minorities in conjunction with right wing political parties. What was Garland even doing
its also a hell of an indictment of merrick garland, one of the worst AGs in american history
Through all his troubles, neither the DOJ/FBI nor any state authorities ever subjected Donald Trump to arrest, preferring in every case to proceed by indictment and voluntary surrender. It’s notable that a sitting judge and pillar of the Milwaukee community was not extended the same courtesy.

I will always be a stan for LINCOLN (2012)
when you get down to it, one of hollywood's biggest failures over the course of a hundred plus years of movie making is that there are fewer movies about the civil war that aren't morally and historically repulsive than you can count on one hand
