This is an absolute must read from one of the best geopolitical minds in the game @alanderminna.bsky.social
The new US National Security Strategy, in its predictable and characteristic ugliness, is a good occasion for Europe to finally let go of the time-consuming transatlantic crisis management efforts and start focusing on a proper and proactive own strategy instead.
Europe Needs A New Strategy Too
The new US National Security Strategy helps - or forces - European leaders to let go of the consuming transatlantic crisis management efforts and to focus on an own strategy instead.

Witkoff and Kushner are self-interested unqualified clowns working to enrich themselves by forcing Ukraine into an unfavorable settlement. Rubio is the only American adult in the room keeping the negotiations from turning into a tribute offering to Russia.

According to a transcript obtained by the German outlet, Europe rallied around Volodymyr Zelenskyy and sharply criticized Washington.

My favourite moments of this iteration of the ”US-Russia peace plan” were:

1. Dmitriev leaking it
2. The points admitting that Russia does kidnap Ukrainian children
3. The points including that Ukraine shouldn’t hit Moscow or St Petersburg ”without a cause”

4. Zakharova stating that there have been no real negotiations since Alaska
5. A clueless Driscoll, who was supposed to talk some military to military cooperation in Kyiv, being tasked to brief Ukraine & NATO on the plan
6. Rubio denouncing the whole thing a day before agreed negotiations in Geneva

On the leaked and thus not-so-secret US-Russia ”peace plan”:

I have read nothing to indicate that it’s any different this time than in February/March, May, and August. The Trump admin is serving the same nothingburger for the fourth time. Media and analysts haven’t learned to see through the noise.

This is so true. It is the rocket science. Its definitely happening
Reading headlines about the US massing forces to Venezuela and ”what is Trump’s aim with the troops ?” reminds me of a certain other country that massed troops at a neighbour’s border 4 years ago and headlines were wondering what Putin’s aim could possibly be

🇷🇸 Europe is preparing for conflict with Russia, — Serbian President Vučić

"Serbia is caught between a rock and a hard place amid the threat of war. I will gladly fire a salute if my fears about the approaching conflict prove to be unfounded," he said.

One the most fantastic arcs in world politics in a long, long time
When Trump first became President in 2016, Sharaa was one of several rebel and former Al Qaeda commanders fighting for survival in Northern Syria after experiencing brutal defeat in the siege of Aleppo.

How the world turns.

This is just insane. Sanctions are very real and very effective
1/2

It seems correct. Read his latest substack, and the two links where he discusses the sanctions in detail.

Bottom line;

The sanctions that is established now, has no effetc, but serves as an active blockage of real sanctions.

This is just insane. These sanctions are very real
Read the small print. Trump just bought Putin 2 months instead of another 2 weeks. The new sanctions are against a chain of gas stations in the US Northeast and just mean the profits will go into a trust. Everything else is another TACO threat that will be conveniently forgotten in a few days...1/2

Yarvin convinced a bunch of credulous tech billionaires that they needed to back an extreme, dumb, & wildly unpopular politics to “save western civilization.” We’re now getting that politics on steroids, and now he’s all “oh no, these policies are unpopular, must flee the country to save ourselves.”
mencius moldbug is thinking of fleeing the country because he thinks the trump administration's chaotic half-assing of dismantling liberal democracy is going to bite them all in the ass
