Tried and true classic liberal Democrat. Believe in America. Believe in science. Believe we can disagree and still coexist.
💯

Take back all the war powers.

Take back the purse.

Take back the law.
If we flip Congress, Congress then needs to take all of its power that over the years has been afforded to the Executive Branch. And starting with next election, we need to reduce Executive Power even more and make the VP something more into a "Prime Minister" that runs the day-to-day ops of gov.

Misinformation *is* central to democratic problems today, but the solution is *not* to correct such epistemic failures directly. Instead, we must address them at their roots, in social identity.

Or so I argue in a new post for @apaphilosophy.bsky.social.

The Problem is Epistemic. The Solution is Not. | Blog of the APA
Doubts about the wisdom of the masses are as old as philosophy itself. Yet interest in democracy’s “epistemic” merits has surged in the last decade—and it is no mystery why. Democracy is collapsing ar...

Respectfully,

"'Death by falling' rates among pregnant women increase with the rate of two story house ownership"

Being murdered is going to go up if you have a gun in the house...seems pretty common sense deduction to me.

I think it will create a class war...in the sense that the elites...will ne shown for what they are: above the law.

We need a DOJ and FBI...domestic law enforcement that is independent so it can go after white collar criminals and these elites who exist in moral depravity above it all.
At this point we have to assume that if the Epstein files are released they will
- end the Trump Presidency
- implicate many other prominent Republicans
- destroy the careers of AG Bondi and his other defenders
This is beginning to feel like the greatest scandal in American history.
Trump has done enormous harm to the country.
He is a deeply corrupt and venal man.
He is wildly unpopular, his agenda more so. He's lost the consent of the governed.
He is old, infirm & clearly no longer mentally competent to run a nation.

It is time now to start talking about him moving on👇

Probably, technically, the term pedophile should be used for prepubescent children, not necessarily 17 year olds...but regardless of what you call it...dude was sex trafficking and raping underage girls...and a bunch of *still* unnamed men were clients.

If the term pedo makes the evil clear, good.

Why are so many people pf Trump right now and for the past decade?
Something that’s so striking in these emails is how…unimpressive Epstein is. He comes off as a pompous, sub-literate lech. Yes everyone is so mortifyingly solicitous of him! All fawning and flattery! Why?????
November 13, 2025 at 12:50 PM
It makes you wonder if Americans accept this and other white collar crime because secretly it's part of the American Dream/Contract.

If you are lucky enough to gain entry into the elite world...you TOO will be exempt from the legal system and can do what you want.
The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

Gotta be honest, those 8 Dem Senators with horrendous comms people owe the House Dems a dinner or two, for releasing the epstein emails and totally stealing the attention of the media.

Shutdown? What Shutdown?

My bid hedge against Trump being directly implicated in the files is that none of the Epstein victims have come forward and said "Donald Trump raped me when I was 14."

At least I haven't seen any such claim.
🚨 BREAKING: Jeffrey Epstein called Donald Trump “the dog that hasn’t barked,” and told Ghislaine Maxwell that an alleged victim had “spent hours at my house” with Trump, according to emails released by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee.

So the idea is "as long as the crime is so big it's all but impossible to unwind without severe consequences...it HAS to remain ij place and default 'legal'"

Nice SCOTUS.
So he’s saying all the tariff money we took in is gone and we won’t be able to pay it back. There was always a possibility he could lose this lawsuit and have to refund the tariff money. We didn’t prepare for that possibility? He’s running the govt like he ran his casinos.

These are the same Senators who will, the next time Dems have the Senate, never nuke the filibuster.

The GOP will ratfuck them now and they will STILL say, "the GOP said they will work with us on a bipartisan bill for this thing they have said they will burn in hell before they support".
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

I have to admit, I didn't see the GOP casting the insurance companies (in fact insurance as a thing) as the big bads...and backing the Dems into sticking up for them and the very concept of insurance.

You never want to be the one sticking up for the insurance companies.
A few years ago there was a terrible Gen Z tweet everyone dunked on about how people should get their car insurance payments back if they don’t use it. Anyway it’s fun to discover this is now the stated position of the GOP

If AI is going to replace workers and the People are going to pay for the infrastructure...then each unit of AI/compute power/whatever should be owned by the People and they should be paid a salary based on the labor the AI is doing.

If my Sally AI is going to take orders...I should get paid.
Sam Altman addresses recent controversies about OpenAI’s financial commitments.

He says they aren’t seeking a government bailout but instead recommend governments invest in chip fabs and datacenters for the people.

He also says they’ll make $20B this year and can afford to spend $1.4T over 8 years

Say what you will about Newsom, he is willing to walk into the lion's den and take risks.
BREAKING: Gavin Newsom just went into Houston, Texas of all places and brought the house down.

This part of his speech gives me chills.

I'm 100% on board if Musk wants to put his money into developing an orbital energy infrastructure for AI (or any energy usage really)...as it would spare the earth the burden of generating that energy.

It sounds like a cool idea.

It's too bad he made himself a bond villain to 50% of the world.
Musk keeps casually talking about "solar powered AI satellites" and "moving AI to orbit" and it is killing me that he is so bad at understanding popular culture that he hasn't realized he's describing SKYNET

Eliminate the filibuster or require holding the floor by actually talking.

No more nonsense silent filibusters

Both party's timid members hide behind it so they don't have to take hard votes.

Privatize social security / ban abortions on the right.

Single payer healthcare on the left.

Etc..
one thing i find crazy-making is the idea that getting rid of the filibuster would make congress a purely majoritarian institution. bicameralism itself is counter-majoritarian! equal state representation is counter-majoritarian! the fact that senate elections are staggered is counter-majoritarian!

Part of the big tent pro-democract movement needs to be planning how we get congress back on track.

It's been getting more dysfunctional for decades (some might say it's never been great considering the change in election of Senators we had to do).

We need a working congress.

I mean Top Gun 2 was just A New Hope's death star trench run, but with F16s. 🤷‍♂️
hoping this upcoming star wars: starfighter movie is just top gun but star wars
ironically what makes star wars stuff best is when it is 'something else, but also star wars'

e.g. Andor, a British political thriller but also Star Wars
the Mandalorian, an episode-of-the-week Western but also Star Wars (when it was good)

A solid 90% of the BS happening right now can be laid at the feet of a dysfunctional congress...which includes the weaponization of the filibuster.
Been fearing this since Dems let the GOP kill Obama's immigration reform with the filibuster.

We don't really have immigration law here we have like 4 decades of stacked deferred action, legal memos, and prioritization.

If we don't change the law the cruelty switch will be there ready next time.
Hundreds of immigration cases in San Francisco have been closed for years, even decades, often b/c they are not an enforcement priority.

Many involve victims of crime & abuse.

This summer, Trump attorneys tried to bring them back.

...and then GOP Senators will REALLY have to think about their vote...and I doubt they have the votes for it...and Trump would need to sign it...and he's been pro-SS (of course they could make it a crypto scheme and he'd probably support it).
you have to wonder what sort of legislation the House tries sending to the Senate if they kill the filibuster. do they finally get around to privatizing social security like during Bush?
