Tried and true classic liberal Democrat. Believe in America. Believe in science. Believe we can disagree and still coexist.

Mamdani made a 90 sec. video discussing when and how the roads would be plowed, crediting the workforce that makes it possible, reminding owners they must shovel, reminding trash may be delayed, saying there’d be a decision about school by noon, and telling kids it’s fine to hit him with snowballs.

One of the hardest things to do is bring campaign-level communications to the work of governance, and snowstorms are notoriously one of the biggest litmus tests that less-engaged voters use to judge mayoral administrations. This is an excellent way to communicate.

The regime and many of its supporters are surprised to see so many people in America define "Us" as "my neighbors, my city, my state, my country," rather than as "my race and gender."

And they seem to have real trouble processing the idea of taking risks to help others and stand on principle.
They cannot believe that white people would put themselves in harm's way to protest the atrocities of ICE. They cannot believe people would go out in subzero temperatures to protest their brutality. They cannot believe that people would organize to let the world know evil has no place here.

Pam Bondi just sent a letter to Minnesota officials saying ICE will leave if the state turns over its voter database to Trump.

Guess what? This has never been about safety or immigration. It’s a pretext for Trump to take over elections in swing states.

204. Accountability After Minneapolis
A short post explaining (1) why it's so hard to hold federal officers and/or the federal government liable for violating our rights; and (2) how a one-sentence statute could (and *SHOULD*) fix it.

One thing I’m thinking about today is the hollowness of all the “Don’t Tread on Me” extremists, who turn out to be just far-right extremists. Dems should retake the Gadsden flag.

Is there a good blue maker of Gadsden flags that doesn’t support far-right causes?

Hey Senator @fetterman.senate.gov are you going to stand with the working people of America like you did in central PA or are you going to stand with a lawless corrupt President and his wealthy backers?

Time to decide who you really are John.
I think now there’s a chance even Fetterman might vote against more ICE funding.

Break them like MLK broke the south.
Nonviolence is, in fact, working. This administration is weaker than it was a year ago. More and more of the public is becoming galvanized against it; its agents are being impeded.
Do you honestly think people in the civil rights movement and other nonviolent movements faced no violence themselves? They practiced nonviolence because it works, because the oppressor wants a shooting war, which is the war it will win

having seen it, I found it shocking they shot him while agents were still in contact with him, I'm sure we will get a frame by frame break down but I think they shot him while ICE agents were in the way, these people are out of control and insane.
This is the sort of disprovable and fantastical statement that the state produces in a society where the trust relationship between it and the public has been totally shattered.

It’s just an attempt to brute force reality

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

“Everyone should be allowed to carry a gun for their safety but the government can murder you in the street if you have a gun” is an incredible endpoint for the conservative moment

If a liberal government had said this, the media would be flocking to every western diner to talk to the "don't tread on me" dudes and to see every sovereign citizen arm themselves to the teeth...and they'd nod sagely as it being necessary and right.
DHS (once again) announces conclusion (within 3 hours) without any investigation.

- Conclusion about federal agent's intent
- Conclusion about individual's intent
- Implicit conclusion about timing of disarming the individual and shooting him

I thought everyone flying this flag was proclaiming some principle about freedom and America.

...but I guess not because I haven't heard sh*t from these guys and the federal gov has killed a man for HAVING A GUN.

I have a theory that like the fact that most things are empty space yet at our scale we experience solid objects...

...individual experiences and decisions can be nuanced and morally-gray...at a large enough scale there is still good and evil.
Me my whole life: Nothing is black and white. You have to consider nuance

Now: We face a heinous, remorseless evil

A new survey shows 40%+ of execs say AI saves them 8+ hrs/week while ~2/3 of non-managers say it saves <2 hrs or nothing.

This is the second time I’ve seen this split, and it explains the CEO hype vs rank-and-file worker ambivalence.

LLMs excel at summaries and email drafts, aka exec busywork.
CEOs Say AI Is Making Work More Efficient. Employees Tell a Different Story.
How much time workers say the technology saves them on the job is vastly different from what executives report.

Respectfully, I wish they would stop with the "grandpa", "insane", etc stuff.

Just say "he is unfit to hold the office and needs to be removed."

No, "take the keys" stuff.
McGovern: Well, he said a lot of crazy shit today. I think it’s time to take the keys away from grandpa. He doesn’t seem like he’s all there.
