Transformative mediation and (clumsy attempts to practice) principled nonviolence keep me from despair. Also, this: "The oppression of children is the wheel that keeps all other oppressions turning."

Parenting with nonviolence led me to prison abolition. It also helped me raise a kid that thinks for themself and who understands the relationship between empathy and justice. Thank you Ruth. Knowing you radicalized me. www.latimes.com/lifestyle/st...
Long before Dr. Becky, this L.A. woman changed parenting for good
Ruth Beaglehole devoted her life to countering what she called "childism," the misuse of power over children. The effects of her parenting classes are felt throughout Southern California and beyond.

I still believe the biggest lesson of 2024 is about information and education. The rightwing media complex is vast and getting bigger, and it is teaching a majority of (white) Americans that (white) victimhood is a noble virtue. So liberals gotta educate the public.

We need these journalists!
Oof, okay. This one's a weird, uncomfortable ask. December was an extremely lean month, with half my shit on going on Flex loans, and I'm staring down the barrel of not being able to pay my rent this month. If you dug my work this year and are feeling generous, I could use a leg up.

Please support!
Alright, y'all. I'm (@lyneka.bsky.social) on dinner duty tonight. I wish you all happy holidays! I’ll be back after Christmas to update folks on our goal. If you’d like to help us reach it, please consider making a one-time or monthly donation. I believe we're at 250+ donors and at 60% of our goal.
We need your help! So far, we’ve raised $16,000 from 164 donors, which tells us that a lot of people understand the importance of this work. We train incarcerated writers and publish their stories. Our goal is to raise $50,000 by Dec. 31. Can you support our work?

I highly recommend watching this segment, not just because the CBS News execs and the White House didn’t want you to, but because these men were tortured and they deserved to have their voices heard.
!! Here’s a link to full video of the 60 Minutes segment that Bari Weiss killed last minute, via @jasonparis.bsky.social:

Not easy to get to sleep tonight - have burnt the bridge of whatever career I had left and really don’t feel that my opinions are so extreme that that should have been necessary
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

One good thing about the current era is that you don't have to argue with people about the fact that white supremacy and racism permeate every aspect of US society. Everyone knows it and some even admit it.

omg. Kat Abughazaleh just posted that if she's elected, she'll swear in on a copy of Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower.

If you were elected to public office (never mind whether you'd ever actually run), what book would you swear in on?

Stop saying, "This is not who we are."
This is exactly who we are right now. It's your duty to help us defeat the fascists so we can stop being awful, which is what we are right now.
Thank you.
