This is extremely dumb for a variety of reasons but perhaps the most obvious is that the Romans didn't apply their adoption law to grants of citizenship.

I cannot communicate how basic an error he is making here. Staggeringly elementary, a thing you learn in Roman Civ 101.
I had missed this latest delirium by Adrian Vermeule on birthright citizenship

'Common law?! NAH, it's the Roman law of adoption that should govern the interpretation of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution!'

this is a very funny comparison because Marvel’s approach is lore maximalist and Sanrio’s is “here are the five facts about Hello Kitty you are allowed to discuss. if you deviate from our brief we will shoot you in the kneecaps”
Hello Kitty, if the data is to be believed, has out-grossed Spider-Man. What can you tell me about Hello Kitty, except that she wears a bow?

This is where one of my lecturers, in the course of trying to explain 19th century Scotland, eventually said wearily, in broadest Glaswegian, "Imagine a bag of cats. Dress them like Presbyterian Moderators. Now shake it. Do that for 300 years."

There are some great suggestions here, but I feel like Elrond deserved at least one F-bomb somewhere. “Men. Men are fucking weak.”
The Lord of The Rings movies were rated PG-13. By current rules that means that each film could contain one use of the word "Fuck". Which line are you altering to insert the most useful swear word?

"I can't carry it for you, but I can Fucking carry you"

That would be silly.

Subskeet: I know it’s hard, venturing into the world of transformative works for the first time, to accept that just as your clever work may not be everyone’s cup of tea, so what you find hopelessly cringe may also be valid and valuable.

But it’s worth the effort.

Oh heck now I want one for my classroom.
I still use a daily, handwritten planner as my calendar. Which means I am a big fan of the ancient device known as the παράπηγμα (parapegma); essentially a Greco-Roman calendar and weather predictor with peg holes where you could keep track of the days and months. archive.nyu.edu/bitstream/24...

And here's a semipro tip for free: treating your professional colleagues (let alone people to whom you aspire to be a colleague) as background characters in your story is a lonely road and a risk to the career you're trying to build.
