Why is the Arts Council story not that there are a bunch of IT /tech companies selling absolute snake oil and getting away with it?

Rather than individual costs to a small organisation.

this is essentially, what's up
The Silicon Valley billionaires & techno-feudal lords who are waging a capitalists' coup right now are rebelling against the people & the "free market" for rejecting them & the tech they need us to become dependent on. They're taking over the government to ensure we have no more choice in the matter

Art should be funded like science. To properly fund art, you fund failure. Funding failure will give you occasional excellence. Creating any art with the aim of it being popular enough to make money, will give you consistent mediocrity. Arists need funding to play and fail because that's the process
Let me tell you about the weird business that delivers art into our lives, and the impact it has on the long-term careers of artists. This is a thread prompted by yet another article on authors' incomes, and the inevitable reactions from the 'people-would-pay-if-it-was-worth-it-to-them' brigade. 1/

Just put a new cover on my quilt, got so frustrated that I went for the rare move of climbing inside the quilt and sorting out the edges that way.

"The Greens are the only party who can deliver on climate policy"...meanwhile while The Green Party was in government.
Data centre development in Ireland:

- prolonging reliance on fossil fuels
- data centre electricity demand growing 23%/pa
- 2017-2023: all additional wind energy generation absorbed by data centre demands
- 21% of all metered electricity consumed by data centres (urban dwellings = 18%, rural = 10%)
Ireland’s data centre trajectory ‘not compatible’ with carbon budgets, new research shows
Professor of energy systems Hannah Daly’s new paper reveals how the rising consumption of gas by the data centre industry is creating a blind spot in the country’s climate action planning

Social media is a great tool for artists. Start your day by tweeting, then make a reel for Instagram, cross-post to Facebook, link to your shop on BlueSky, upload to TikTok, post on Mastodon, add a poll to Flurgle, snurt on Snurter, and you've a whole 5 minutes left to draw something

The idea that a service needs to be self-funding to justify existing needs to die in a ditch.
Trinity have finally confirmed that Science Gallery Dublin will not reopen. The focus has been on how much of a cultural loss this is (which I agree with), but it also represents a lot of job losses in a small, struggling sector.

genuinely think it will only be a matter of time before oil and gas CEOs are targeted like this

if people feel the legal/political system offers nothing to address the great injustices of companies destroying lives for profit, do we expect them to not act themselves

The words "deny," "defend" and "depose" were found on shell casings near where Brian Thompson, the CEO of insurance giant UnitedHealthcare, was killed - as in, the legal tactics insurers use to reduce liability or reject claims abcnews.go.com/US/man-shot-...
