The UK's political and media class has spent years heaping sadism on trans people, and they want to do the same in Ireland next. Calls for civility and calm won't cut it. We need to fight them tooth and nail.

The poor provision of unisex children’s facilities— which reinforces gender stereotypes and inconveniences women and men both — was, incidentally, an issue I remember being quite talked-about a decade...

My garda neighbor told me rioters keep burning his vans so I asked how many vans he has and he said he just goes to the shelter and gets a new van afterwards so I said it sounds like he’s just feeding vans to rioters and then his daughter started crying.

Regardless of your stance on foxhunting and hare coursing, whoever is sending Humphreys out with that "They're rural pursuits, they have rules" stock answer is failing at their job, and so every journalist who doesn't follow it up with "why is cockfighting illegal then?" is failing at theirs.

Putting aside the thorny question of whether prison sentences have any rehabilitative effect (clearly the state doesn't believe this when it suits it) it's interesting Ray Burke, Ivory Callely, Ned O'Keeffe etc etc aren't mentioned in the brief list of examples of Oireachtas members who served time.

Every day till election day is going to consist of journalists reporting on Catherine Connolly saying something eminently sensible that everyone you know agrees with instinctively and pretending that it's an absolute bombshell that should instantly disqualify her.

As I always say a "technicality" is the word you use for a bit of law you don't like.
"on a technicality"

Not really.

A failure to get necessary consents to a terror charge is not a slight error. They are safeguards when a person faces a serious charge.

Prosecutors should take such safeguards seriously: this is terrorism law they are using.

When I say AI is a fascist technology, this is what I mean: a spectacular assault on the idea that true things can be known
And that's one of the reasons (some of them) really like generative AI. It enables them to produce so much noise that it's hard to cut through and figure out what's true or false.
"Flooding the zone" as Steve Banon called it. Other's call it Media Blietzkrieg, which might lead to actual blietzkrieg.
