A fantastic read.
A colleague at Stanford’s business school used The Stanford Daily to argue—poorly—against DEI. The piece was riddled with historical errors and left one searching for fact, so I broke my public writing hiatus to respond.

I hope you’ll read and share the piece.

What DEI threatens isn’t merit. It’s monopoly.
Political science professor Hakeem Jefferson argues for DEI's importance to de-monopolizing universities.

The Massachusetts "millionaires tax" has vastly surpassed projections, bringing in more than $1.8 billion in revenue so far this fiscal year — with the prospect of a surplus of hundreds of millions of dollars to spend on transportation and education
State’s ‘millionaires tax’ has already generated $1.8 billion this year, blowing past state projections - The Boston Globe
The estimated haul is already $800 million more than what Governor Maura Healey and state lawmakers planned to spend from its revenue in fiscal year 2024.

Not to sound like a broken record, but the newest NYT/Siena poll contains some notable biases in favor of Republicans and conservatives, and it produces some absurd results. But you wouldn’t know it from the headlines! My analysis and how to sleep easier, in the replies.

Ha. This made me realize I can be pro-union but still be critical of this specific teacher's union.

this debate is a good reminder that even without trump the state of the republican party is rancid. it’s not that these people don’t have actual solutions for real problems facing this country, they can’t even identify real problems
watching this republican debate and once again struck by how ron desantis’ voice is intolerable to listen to for longer than 30 seconds

Really good history lesson in here from @katzonearth.bsky.social:
