I’m just a small-town political scientist, & it’s still relatively early, but it appears that The Actual Democrats did not Need To Do any of the Things or Learn any of the Obvious Lessons that Ezra Douthglesias said they Must Do & Learn.

@bcantrill.bsky.social @ahl.bsky.social Books in the Box V might be Oxide episode of the year. I think the segue to @molly.wiki 's reviews or the Carpaccio story alone would have secured the nomination.

@edzitron.com this is a brilliant point: you vibe code and deploy to the cloud...and then you get a nice surprise in the next bill.
One problem with vibe coding is you don't know what you don't know. I cut my Azure costs by 2/3 this month just by reducing the verbosity of my logging and it looks like I can easily cut it another 2/3. Still, even at $30/month this was a minimal cost for programs that make me thousands a month.

Mark Cuban talking about AI is very reminiscent of when Elon Musk started talking about software engineering. It caused a lot of us in the software engineering space to realize he's just very confidently wrong about everything, and this was probably also the case in other industries too.

@edzitron.com they got to Torsten, lol. TBF, he's just regurgitating some CBO report, which is probably pinning nonsense GDP growth and inflation projections on AI - just how earnings analysts ramp out way out future earnings estimates "because of AI"
Torsten Sløk (Apollo Chief Economist)

"The Congressional Budget Office estimates that if AI results in permanently higher GDP growth and permanently lower inflation, it could solve the US fiscal problem"

@keubiko.bsky.social how the hell the aerospace and defense industry and their lobbyists lets the SV-types get a foothold in this completely baffles me. The only explanation is that they still haven't really woken up.

@steveklabnik.com Really enjoyed the wide-ranging AI OxF discussion. Main takeaway was that Broad Ranging and Complex Topic (AI) + Highly Fractured Society = Everyone Gets Angry. Good conversations are probably still the best way to discuss difficult things vs. our Hobbesian social media reality.

This anomaly--that the grandson of a man who was born 235 years ago and elected president 184 years ago was still alive--has always fascinated me. American history is very long and very short and always weird. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/29/u...

@richburroughs.dev Falls Count Anywhere rules, apparently...
Elon Musk had a WWE-style “screaming match” with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent feet from the Oval Office — which only ended when they were physically dragged apart. The fight last Thursday, which was over who should run the IRS, started in the Oval and the two took it outside to the hall.
