Thank you so much @clbergpowers.bsky.social. It's been astounding to see the complete erasure of the work that I've put in in service of smears and lies. Mr. Rivera's opponents know this. He knows this. Everyone knows it.
I have one issue with this article, which is that it gives Rivera the last word, and in so doing implies that those who argued that Etel was too focused on national issues at the expense of constituent services were right. That couldn't be further from the truth. A brief 🧵
I am so grateful to share a community with this incredibly fierce warrior woman. The MAGAts in our city will feel no shame, but I hope the fence sitters, and those, like the mayor, who decided doing the right thing was too costly, feel at least a shred of embarrassment at how empty of values you are

1. Thank you @clbergpowers.bsky.social!!
2. I can't @wrrbureau.bsky.social because I'll be w. family post court, but 100% folks should go support the talented staff and E.D. of WRRB. Don't let Mr. Murray have the last word on their work.
3. CRB will be up to the new council. ORGANIZE NOW
So Worcester folks a couple of ways to stand on the side of justice tomorrow - (1) Courthouse in the morning to show support for @etelhaxhiaj.bsky.social and (2) in the evening you can join @wrrbureau.bsky.social for their annual meeting to thank them for all the great work they've done this year!

In Worcester we have a brave woman who is doing precisely this. And those of us, mostly women by the way, will keep standing with her.
Women who put themselves through this, with visible trauma, don’t do this for themselves, they do it for all girls and women who may continue to be victims of a system that grants impunity to predators. Do not fail them, demand accountability, and don’t stop.

Thank you to each one of them.

My former employer, Fenway Health, has chosen not to provide care to trans folks under 19, because the agency is primarily funded through HHS contracts that will be cancelled if they continue providing services. AFAIK, they haven't even put a replacement referral program in place yet. Upsetting.

“When the 8 African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system,” says the sheriff of Charlotte. These new sheriffs broke ties with ICE.

But GOP lawmakers cracked down this week, overbidding the governor’s veto to adopt this law:
North Carolina GOP Is Cracking Down on the Black Sheriffs Who Stood Up to ICE
Boosted by new supermajorities, Republicans are closing in on legislation to mandate more collaboration with ICE and preempt local policies hard-won by immigrants’ rights advocates.

I'm seeing people wonder why ICE is going after Charlotte.

ICE has been at war with Charlotte's sheriff ever since he won in 2018.

We'd covered this at Bolts back in the day; this quote is from that sheriff:

🧵 open letter to Holy Cross President. Also emailed to him.

Dear President Rougeau:

I first met you at my first inauguration as a City Councilor in January 2022. You were our opening speaker. I do not remember your words from that long ago, but, I do remember sharing a common thread with you

My fellow Worcesterites, Holy Cross University has allowed an ICE agent, Ryan Vasquez, to attend their upcoming career day in a recruiting capacity. Tell their president what you think of this.

The slightest commerce with ICE must bring about social consequences so severe that no door will ever open for the collaborator again as long as they live.

Good for Jermoh. And thank you @hendersonma.bsky.social for calling out the explicit racism of telling a Black woman she should sit down. We’ve heard that story before. I signed Jermoh’s petition as a Ward 7 voters. And support her 100%.
Jermoh Kamara requesting a hand recount, had submitted all needed signatures for all Wards (except 4, and she has until Friday to do so)
