Democrats should propose amendments to the SAVE act that require the government to furnish free IDs to all eligible voters before requiring them, automatically register all people to vote, expand mail-in voting, and create a national voting holiday. Then watch republicans block them.

Katie Phang called this a "pincer move": they're trying to make it so you can't vote without a passport, and they are closing places to get passports.

Heather Cox Richardson is a national treasure. In this incredible conversation she does what she does best - synthesize current events through the lens of American history. It's exciting to see her do it in conversation, in real time, with an optimistic eye toward the future.

Trump is losing this battle.
@kyledcheney.bsky.social tracks legal opinions in a new list: 373 judges against ICE’s policy, only 28 endorsed; Trump appointees split 44 against/ 20 for the policy.
NEW: We’re publishing a full list of the 373 federal judges who have ruled against ICE’s mass detention policy and the 28 who have endorsed it — as well as links to key rulings by each.

Trump appointees have split 44 against/ 20 for the policy.

This is so true!
I think I’d rather be waterboarded than have to listen to Pam Bondi in another hearing. Her voice is still ringing in my ears. It’s like nails on a chalkboard. I think it could seriously cause psychological harm if you are overexposed to it.

On a rainy day like today it’s nice to remember you have soup in the freezer! Lunch: Homemade minestrone with poached egg and parmesan toast from my own sourdough.

The haste of ICE arrests w/ no regard to consequences = an overload of habeas petitions for DOJ lawyers. DOJ's dropped ball in many cases, missed deadlines, botched filings, violated orders. ICE isn't communicating with those lawyers, either. Looks like a real mess.

‘This job sucks’: Government lawyers, drowning in immigration cases, have had it
Government lawyers say they’re overwhelmed and can’t get a response when they tell ICE to comply with judges’ orders.

Since the 300 Washington Post layoffs this AM, I've seen many independent news outlets (Punchbowl, Semafor, Substack, Hiiv, Notus etc) tweeting / skeeting w/ job offers. These new outlets are the new way. "Legacy Media" is being killed by corporate interests.

Dem demands re: DH keep ICE intact but with changes. Guess we need to keep yelling at them.
Per Schumer & other Dems:
1) end roving patrols, tighten rules on warrants
2) enforce accountability, unified code of conduct for fed agents
3) masks off, body cameras on

Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

Schumer a NO on including DHS in next week's appropriations bill.
Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included.

FYI: Dems in the senate can't defund ICE. ICE is funded by the Big Ugly Bill. Shutting down DHS on this vote wouldn't touch ICE, but it would shut down FEMA, TSA, Coast Guard, etc. Shutting down ICE requires taking back Congress in the midterms. Dismantling DHS requires the White House in 2028.
