Would be a good man if there were somebody here to shoot him every minute of his life.
After 30 years of speaking Polish, I had to try and resurrect my Spanish last week to communicate with an uncle. Spent way too much time trying to remember different verbs for "to go" (on foot) vs "to go" (by a vehicle). And other fun stuff.
keep meaning to write about this but god if this isn't me - feel like people maybe assume that being bilingual means thinking in a mix of words but my god it's so much worse than that, I conjugate French verbs in English, I feminise/masculinise English nouns, it's a MESS up here
My partner's language with siblings is second generation family Italian via Malta with English accents. Lots of English verbs can be made Italian if you add semi-appripriate suffixes, it turns out

Her parents owe their lives to the United States accepting them as asylum seekers fleeing religious persecution in Iraq in the 1980s. She wouldn't be here if we had not offered her family safe haven.

The hypocrisy is stunning.
Habba: There were individuals that were saying that this should be a safe harbor, a safe haven. Why? America is America because we protect our own.

The irony is that until 2014 Ukraine pretty much WAS a buffer zone between NATO and Russia. Support for NATO membership was well below 50%. Putin's strategic genius put an end to all that.
🇭🇺 Orban: After the war, Ukraine should be a buffer state between NATO & Russia. He says Russia will keep parts of occupied Ukraine, Kyiv’s army must be limited, & peace means U.S.-Russia investment ties return.

“Abandon illusions. Time is on Russia’s side,” he added.

The journalist who got this scoop and reported it is a former U.S. Army infantry soldier and Iraq War vet
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

Ahead of launching a war on Venezuela, the US would like to announce that no one in Venezuela should help US forces, it'd be stupid to do so, the US will denigrate you and screw you over no matter how much you help, and blame you if even one Venezuelan who also helped the US ever does something bad.

I'm sure it'll be fine. And anyway, if something goes wrong - well, we elected a businessman, somebody with experience in the private sector.
Hey guys, so what if we did a huge wave of collaterized debt obligations again--no, it's VERY different this time.

This time, instead of being ultimately backstopped by houses that last decades, it's backed by GPUs that toast themselves in about 2 years.

2007 was amateur work compared to this.

In fact the ride-or-die-for-Willis narrative — this bold and crusading charismatic leader is in the right and any criticisms of the things she does area a result of biased haters and Those People - stinks of Trumpism.

Been out for 30 years. The only two American ideals I have left are the First Amendment and ice in drinks.
Having lived 20 years (and counting) in Europe & seen the less pro-speech balance (compared to First Amendment jurisprudence) struck by courts in NL, France, England & Wales, & ECtHR, I do have some sympathy for some criticisms of 1A.

But I still think this is one thing the US does better.
Note that the BBC openly admits in an email to me that the removal of this claim about Trump's world-historical corruption was done "on legal advice."

Translation: Trump's threat of a lawsuit, no matter how bogus, has now been rewarded.

The whole "man of peace" thing has a different ring if you read it in a Russian accent.
Steve: Trump is a man of peace.
Yuri <Borat voice>: Yes yes, he is peace man, I see tape from hotel, so beautiful girls, is nice!!!!!
Putin aide Yuri Ushakov called the leaked chat with U.S. envoy Witkoff “very unusual,” blaming WhatsApp and hinting someone wanted it exposed. He claimed neither side wanted the leak, but compared it to the Flynn case, suggesting Witkoff might have enemies in D.C.

Yeah right.

Of course. Now that they've set this as the baseline (at least in many minds), they'll push for more.
Russia flat out rejects Trump's 28-point peace plan: "Even in a reduced military and territorial form, Ukraine would remain a significant danger, requiring us to keep our forces on the western borders."

I know. And I frankly wouldn't give even an itty bitty damn if it implicated every Democratic man in Congress, every Democratic hopeful for 2028 and every Democrat who has even thought about running for office.

Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

a fun thing to consider is that China, and probably Russia, almost certainly have the ability to post from the president's Truth Social account. they just know that they only get to use that *once*.
I think the White House is probably absolutely riddled with spies and listening devices and also they're getting exactly as much actionable intelligence as you'd get from browsing Truth Social.
