Danielle Smith's Alberta government has announced that they will use the Notwithstanding Clause to protect three laws (all targeting trans people) from court challenges.

NEW from me in @xtramagazine.com on the lies they're using to justify such a massive move ⬇️

"Things happen" sometimes, like when you walk into an embassy to apply for your marriage license while your bride-to-be waits outside, but then you get bonesawed to pieces for having exercised freedom of speech as an US-based journalist and have to be carried out in a series of suitcases.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Rabbi here.

The West Bank is absolutely occupied, in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, reaffirmed from the Fourth Hague Convention of 1907, Article 42.

It would be helpful if people who didn't know what they were talking about didn't open their uninformed mouths.
Genuinely curious as to why Wu and others who argue along these lines are surprised that pro-Israel politics are on the back-foot in the United States.

Anyone who’s ever used emergency contraception or gains peace of mind by even having it on hand owes Dr Camp a debt of gratitude. What a force.

(Also, I just learned one reason the FDA rejected it at first was that they said the name Plan B was too glib!)

Great obit—no paywall.

Doug Ford’s new housing bill has been sold as efficiency reform, yet it prioritizes landlords over tenants. Long-term renters will face faster evictions, fewer protections, and higher rents while corporate landlords consolidate even more control of an already deeply financialized market.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.
