SOCOM was 45k folks in 2006. Today its 70K. That is a huge growth. Do we still need a SOCOM of this size? maybe. maybe not.
Another aspect of this is the incredible growth in size of the SOF establishment over the GWOT. How much debate has happened about right-sizing the institution? Idk. I'm not privy to those conversations if they're happening.

The important context left out of most western reporting on the region is that in Israel, "terrorist" is a racial slur

The Nuzzi story is in this sense the Epstein story, & the J6 story, & the Supreme Court protests story, & the Palestine protests story, & the BLM story, & the MeToo story: that much of what we consider liberal media believes in Wilhoit conservatism as strongly & unhesitatingly as any Trumper
