Pelosi's retirement reminds me of the old adage that incumbents rarely retire at optimal moments--in this case she is the exception.

If a blue wave is coming in 2026, this is the moment for older incumbents to retire, because their successors won't need the benefits of incumbency to win.

I feel naïve asking, but do they have such a project related to Donald Trump and his administration?
i could not be more disgusted (particularly since i am loooong past disappointed)

The ADL has decided to treat fascists as allies and progressives as enemies. For a group that is tasked with protecting American Jews, that is a world historic fuck up.

I will never forgive these people for their moral decrepitude.

A coalition that ranges from democratic socialists to neoconservatives, including a lot of energized liberals in between, is large and formidable.

A big pro-democracy tent. A united front. Any internal disagreements can be hashed out once the authoritarian emergency is over.

This really can work.

Amazing how upfront and unfiltered he is about his ongoing authoritarian project. The goal is to make sure the opposition can never win, and he flat-out says it.
Trump: "They're gonna make DC a state and they're gonna make Puerto Rico a state. So now they pick up two states, four senators. They're gonna pick up electoral votes. It's gonna be a very, very bad situation. Now, if we do what I'm saying, they'll most likely never obtain power."

He is explicit here that the only GOP opposition to DC and PR statehood is because the GOP thinks it hurts them politically.

DC & PR deserve statehood because they want statehood and not being a state is causing them tangible harms!

These are American people we're talking about!

We need progressive challengers to Dem incumbents to start making noise about running ASAP. One of the few reliable ways to make incumbent Dems defend their left flank.

Dems have swept all five row offices in the crucial swing county of Bucks County, PA, by about a 56-44 margin, including my longtime friends Joe Khan and Danny Ceisler being elected District Attorney and Sheriff, respectively. We swept all four open common pleas judgeships. This is a great night.

57% of all ad spending by Republicans in the Virginia governors race was on anti trans ads. Just an incredibly mismanaged campaign. Anti-trans politics are a losing issue.

In the end, we never should have doubted the conventional wisdom that it's basically impossible to lose a retention election.

RETAIN is currently at 79% as votes continue to come in.
November 5, 2025 at 1:55 AM
The early results on PA Supreme Court demonstrate the futility of fighting retention elections. The millions spent to beat the Dem majority are producing "only" 59% RETAIN votes in conservative bastions like Clinton and Jefferson Counties (where Trump got over 70% in 2024).

Q: It's election day in NYC. Did you vote for Mamdani or Cuomo?

Schumer: "Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help NYC."

I remember a lot of discussion about the importance of understanding the “75 million” people (many commentators rounded up) who voted for Trump in 2020. Interesting to note that more than 75 million people voted for Harris, and yet I saw no such equivalent discourse after the 2024 election.

Not saying health care isn't a good issue - it is and should be a focus.

But walk and chew gum -- should be so easy to cement the public view that this is govt is corruption 24/7/365

The White House is blatantly violating the Constitution, ignoring Congressionally-allocated spending. Approving any budget would put a stamp of approval on the end of checks and balances.

It'll hurt, yes, but it's time for opposition. The political costs will mostly fall on the people in charge.
Opinion | Democrats shouldn’t bail out Trump as the shutdown drags on
The best time for the opposition to take a stand, rather than settle for untrustworthy promises, is right now.
