I can’t believe that as recently as a few months ago, the consensus Democratic Party position, even on the left, was that you couldn’t call to ‘abolish ICE.’

Good luck to the Democratic candidates who run in 2028 while opposing the abolition of ICE.

A rogue fascist agency.

It's shocking to me (1) how few people understand how organized all of this destruction is; (2) how little organized response there's been. We couldn't even motivate a full-throated public defense from the opposing party. They let the smears fester & those smears factored into their defeat in 2024.

The adamant elite refusal to call bullshit is a big part of How We Got Here.

The prevailing cultural attitude for years is you must not, under any circumstances, treat anything as bad faith. You are obligated to find some reasonable idea and engage with that, even if you distort to get there.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.

The NRA buys off Congress. No action on guns.

Insurance companies buy off Congress. No action on health care.

The list goes on and on.

There’s an opportunity here: the Alex Joneses of the world have cultivated an audience using narratives of government overreach, skepticism of power, etc. His followers are going to have a short window of dissonance around this shift. A savvy left would seize the moment to message that audience.

It’s very strange that this article on the staffing issues at Newark Airport doesn’t mention the fact that DOGE fired 400 FAA employees a few months ago, and union officials warned about exactly these kinds of shortages.

If I were the Democratic Party, I'd be running ads 24/7 about how Donald Trump is gold plating the oval office, accepting jets as bribes, and getting rich on selling access via crypto while simultaneously tanking the markets while cutting Medicare & Social Security but hey what do I know.

Both domestic and international news outlets are not telling you about the American pushback.

For example, did you hear about the 15k people who just came to the "Fight Oligarchy and Authoritarianism" rally with Bernie and AOC in Arizona?

Unheard of outside of campaign seasons.

This is completely fucked up. I know everything is fucked up, but THIS is why universities need to stand up and fight, not cave like Columbia did. NOTHING will satisfy them, and all the capitulation just leads to more demands and humiliation.
I’m told this is a real letter. It basically says, “We’ll destroy Columbia unless you destroy it first.”
