Alice Wong helped me accept my disabilities.

She taught me there’s no social justice without disability justice.

She encouraged me to start The Disabled Ginger and was a friend & mentor.

She won’t be forgotten.

Don’t let the bastards grind you down:

Thank You Alice Wong
Alice Wong has passed away and the disability community has lost a leader. I lost a mentor and a friend. The Disabled Ginger wouldn't exist without Alice and everything she taught me.

Almost 500k studies showing COVID causes lasting damage… if that doesn’t convince anyone, nothing will.

It isn’t a matter of if, it is just a matter of when.

This person was infected with COVID twice and recovered. A 3rd infection brought manageable long COVID symptoms, but they were still able to work. After a 4th infection a few months ago, they haven’t recovered at all — showing how repeated infections can cause severe, lasting damage.

How long do you think Democrats were sitting on those Epstein emails waiting for an opportunity to release them when they needed a distraction?

You all honest to God think that the eight Democrats that voted to end the shut down just happen to be people that weren’t up for reelection anytime soon or at all? If you think that I can’t talk to you.

Everyone thinks they will be the exception.

Serious illness or disability won’t happen to them and IF it does, they will be able to afford it.

The reality is it only takes one catastrophic event to change your life, especially in a country that doesn’t guarantee healthcare for all.

My MCAS hit before Covid, but it’s been devastating to my ability to eat.

I’m down to 10 safe foods. I’m malnourished and still losing weight.

The digestive and allergic issues that can accompany Long Covid are very destructive to quality of life.
So I try not to give too many gory details about life with long covid, but I also think it’s important to give a clear picture of what can happen to anyone.

Over the last yearish, I’ve become allergic to more than 70 foods. Today I lost soy. I’m not how long I can keep eating at all.

Starving people is a weapon of control. So, too, is controlling and attacking the media, attacking science and higher ed, and using the military against citizens and innocent people. All weapons of control.

Yall real silent about disability injustices because most of you don’t see disability as a thing that can happen to you.

We are “aww those poor people”. Meanwhile disability can happen to anyone at any moment and those injustices you ignored? They become your experiences too

I don’t care who you are, the one thing that links all of the -isms and bigotries together and sets them on fire is eugenics and ableism.

They’ve been playing you all the entire time. There is no progress in this country for ANYTHING without equity for disabled people.

Another set of trials focused on non-drug treatments for LC proven to be ineffective. 🙄 You can’t exercise the mind into healing? Who would have thought. I’m so tired of researchers wasting time on thought experiment trials or exercise based trials. Has yet to be and will not be the solution.

Disabled people tried to warn you.

We said that the rising eugenicist sentiment that accelerated during the “back to normal” phase of Covid would eventually hurt everyone

The new healthcare plan for America appears to be:

Don’t get sick

If you do get sick, it’s your fault

If you can’t pay, die

the inverse i’ll get is people asking me, masked, if i’m sick, to which ive got a few replies:
> “nah i just mask in all public indoor spaces”
> “not yet and i’d like to keep it that way”
and my fave for if i’m feeling mysterious and or snarky:
> “yes but not in the way you think”
Sometimes when people ask me why I’m wearing a mask I say I’m traveling or have some important thing soon and can’t afford to get sick and miss it and that’s pretty much always true but I think it would be nice if it were more normalized to just say “I don’t want to get sick” and leave it at that

This is what I mean when I say that present-day covid denialism is right wing. It was a plan born of corporatists and wholly adopted by centrists and even leftists eager to pretend the pandemic was over, which should immediately give anyone thinking about it pause.
Remember how just a few years ago during the worst of the pandemic when we saw how the govt can actually do big things and saw that our collective health & well-being are intertwined, and then corporations got mad that they lost a modicum of power and helped fund a backlash of amnesia and fascism?
