My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

As the federal shutdown drags on, viral AI videos are being created, depicting mostly Black women aggressively lamenting the loss of SNAP benefits. These posts revive the racist “welfare queens” caricature and perpetuate misconceptions about who the average SNAP recipient is. https://bit.ly/3JzpDHV

Did you know a former White House climate advisor flipped a GOP stronghold in Virginia by running entirely on putting a stop to more AI data centers?

For @heatmap.news I profiled John McAuliff and a campaign that will be a roadmap for all future anti-AI politicians moving forward.
This Virginia Election Was a Warning for Data Centers
John McAuliff ran his campaign almost entirely on data centers — and won.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

Get really into dinosaurs. That's my recommendation for a happier life. Each day, I get news like "Look at this big freak that used roam the Earth!" or "Ya know the big freak you already loved? Fossils show it was even more freakish!" and it's a blessing every time.

If they had the capacity to do this, it would be really bad. And they probably will try to do a couple of high profile examples to make you think they *do* have the capacity. But like a lot of stuff, this is a memo designed to get you to voluntarily stop doing stuff they don’t like.

Charlie Kirk called me a ‘lunatic’ and a ‘prostitute’ and demanded I be deported.

Nothing, *nothing*, justifies killing him, or robbing his kids of their dad.

We don’t know the identity or motive of the shooter but murder can *never* be the response to political disagreements.

Corrupting economic statistics will change our economic reality. Here's how:

Tariffs raise prices. Social Security is indexed to inflation. If Trump tells a partisan BLS head to downplay inflation, seniors' social security checks won't keep up.

Rigged stats = stolen benefits.

I hate it when weak-minded media such as the Washington Post say that DC crime is dramatically down but "many residents still do not feel safe." They're talking about an *information problem* more than a crime problem. Right-wing propagandists don't want anyone to feel safe.

This is heartbreaking, both as a someone who directly benefited from NIH research and as someone who served at the Clinical Center as a chaplain during 2023.
The number of people receiving treatment at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center — which cares for patients with rare or life-threatening diseases — has tumbled under the second Trump administration. The God I serve is ENTIRELY unconcerned about what we do or do not "deserve" (and less about what we think we/others deserve). God is concerned with abundance for ALL, with justice and mercy *in spite of* what we deserve. Some Christians would do well to remember this most basic tenet of the faith.

When Medicaid gets cut, families pay the price.

This story from @usatoday.com shows what’s at stake for parents caring for children with disabilities—loss of therapy, home-based care, and the ability to keep their kids at home.
They don't need Medicaid. But their kids do.

I'm prepping for my sermon Sunday and one of the commentaries noted (paraphrased) that PEOPLE seem super concerned with fairness but in this Luke 12 text, Jesus doesn't. That just hit me anew reading this headline. What is "fair," really? Are we making "fairness" an idol?
Buttigieg said parents have legitimate concerns.

To be clear: If you cannot be relied on to unequivocally defend transgender kids, you can’t be relied on to defend anyone or anything.
