Great piece by Zadie Smith. When the right talks about classics or "Western" culture, these works are only important to the extent that it demonstrates their superiority, they have no interest in art in and of itself beyond that www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

As someone who grew up watching Indian films John Wick is just ok. His moves aren't even spectacular. Vijaykanth once wanted revenge on someone in New York City so he threw himself into space & waited there till the earth rotated and NYC was below him then landed on the WTC to save on plane tickets
Anyways my point is that the first John Wick movie kicks fucking ass but the subsequent John Wick sequels are over-long and oftentimes boring but no one wants to say that because we all like Keanu and want him to be happy

Wii Ennui: A Nintendo Wii Postmortem
a very very long time ago i was listening to a video game podcast that has long since stopped existing where a frustrated listener wrote in asking what “Guitar Hero Ennui” was because he misheard them talking about “Guitar Hero on Wii”

ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

my patience has increased but I will say, it is ok to have trouble reading, it is not ok to scream at people for things you imagined they said because you can't read what they actually said

ok one last post -- oldheads are always going to "why is the web dying.... how can we get the kids invested in the free and open web"

bro the kids can't read. that's why the web is dying. first things first

Fun fact - the Oscars were literally created to union bust!

Studio execs wanted something they solely controlled that others desired and then used the Oscars to force workers to get in line with threats of never giving it to them if they didn't.

Feels eerily similar...

Louis B. Mayer, co-founder of the Academy Awards stated:

"I found that the best way to handle filmmakers was to hang medals all over them. If I got them cups and awards, they'd kill themselves to produce what I wanted. That's why the Academy Award was created."

a few people pointing Thing™ out & making "most people" aware of it is how we know about most of the cool things we know in/about video games
"I'm the guy who hears someone using voice distortion on a woman to try to make her sound like Darth Vader before the WOOOH ITS A GIRL WEARING POWER ARMOR WITH A VOICE MODULATOR??? reveal and I can tell who the voice actor is, so I'm hypersensitive to sound"

him: "most people can't hear that"

So as off right now the Falconeer is 50% off to celebrate its release. And here's a #howitstarted shot by shot comparison of how the game evolved with the Remaster.

If you enjoyed the game, now is no better time than to leave a review on steam and support!

high salaries for electeds needs to come with the death penalty for corruption, especially bribery

you should not be a public servant for the check. administrative staff are a lil different as i do believe they should be paid well in order for them to focus instead of living on the poverty line
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

repeat that last line to yourself. this is enormously important.

"no longer would politics would be something that is done to us. now it would be something that WE DO"

ACTION. that WE DO. this is all real; this is all possible; this is all essential. let's DO THIS.
