I spoke to a dozen professional concept artists working in games about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs easier, even if it's just used in "very early ideation stages."

Zero said "yes." Most said it made their job harder.

I learnt a lot about concept artists. You should too!
We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

Me: "Oh? When did you start?"

People need to understand that working in games is a "theme park job." Everyone on the outside sees the rides and the mascot suits and assumes it's a fun day out, five days a week. It can be fun, but it's still work. But it's that flawed perception that leads to studios taking advantage of workers.

Me: “A question - can I roll with advantage?”
DM: “…why?”
Me: “Because… I want to?”
DM: “Uh… no?”
Me: “Worth a shot.”

It’s 2025 in Australia. A teenager hangs outside a servo, approaching a grown up as he walks close. “Hey bro if I give you cash can you buy me a few posts on the socials?”

Allegedly if you try to login to Bluesky now you get told you need to verify your age if you’re from AU/NZ.

If I vanish suddenly, it’ll be me being annoyed and refusing to do so.

I think I'm tired of cozy games. Cozy are games are so 2015.

Let's nix them in favour of ANGRY games. Fucking FURIOUS games. Let's get punk about this shit.

If Bluesky locks me out of features because I refuse to do age verification bullshit (which compromises my personal information) then so be it.

If that makes Bluesky even less useable then... so be it.

Just a reminder: there are other places to socialise online, and many are not tech bro startups.

Okay, got about 70% of the simple interactive fiction tool done.

Will get back to it after work tomorrow.

After that, what other small text games should I port/code/make for FT-DOS?

Leaning towards clones of either Star Trek or Dope Wars. Both can be played with simple character or string input.

It's important to add a simple text adventure engine to your faux-DOS distribution.
