oh shit the art in this piece hits hard
Staff at a Twin Cities yarn store put together a pattern for a red knit “Melt the ICE” hat inspired by the Norwegian resistance.

They thought they would attract 10 people to a weekly knit-along.

They’ve sold 70,000 copies, raising more than $250k for immigrant aid groups.
‘Rage knitting’ against the machine: the hobbyists putting anti-ICE messages into crafts
Makers take a stand through ‘Melt the ICE’ red knit caps and sparkly nails – all while raising funds for those affected by immigration raids

A Visual Tour of Minneapolis’ Radical History
The city’s all-out rebellion against ICE builds on more than a century of labor and social justice organizing, explains archivist Isaac Silver.

Check in on your Twin Cities friends, family, colleagues, distant acquaintances. (Thank you, friends and colleagues, who've been doing this so beautifully for me.) Don't know what to say? Send a cat picture, we love that shit. "This sucks, thinking of you." "You and your neighbors are in my heart."

Mutual Aid by Dean Spade is free on Libro for the next week (until 2/2).

We know that books can't fix everything, but they can help us show up for and strengthen our communities. Our employee book club read this last year, leading to a great discussion. We hope that it helps others do the same 💗 ⏬

We've raised a lot of money for my school community neighbors.

And I predict all of it will be depleted by the end of this week.

I object to the fact that brains can react to stress/grief by becoming unable to read for fun. I object to a lot of human stress reactions but like wtf brains, leave us our novels at least.

The helicopters are certainly loud tonight, awesome for all our remaining nerves when it sounds like they're entering the house 😬 (sleep tight, take care, hold onto what you love, also crank up the white nose machines I guess)

Hey, beloveds also in MN. Try to take a moment to remember standing at the edge of Lake Superior on a sunny day when the lake is loud, immense, perfect. Or get your face in your dog's fur. Or ... just anything that grounds your precious self. Drink some water, have a hug, make another therapy appt ❤️

Really, really recommend that Minnesotans in particular disable autoplay, I know it's annoying to have to click to see a GIF but it's not worth the mental health costs of seeing the first seconds (before you scroll by) of murders in our city over and over and over.
to turn off autoplaying video on the bluesky mobile app

select the icon in the top left corner

go to settings

go to content and media

make sure "autoplay videos and gifs" is toggled off

I will give you a personalized romance recommendation if you purchase it TOMORROW from either Tropes & Trifles, a romance only bookstore in Minneapolis. (This is a brilliant idea I am copying from Maris Kreizman)

Okay this made me literally lol at a time when everything is terrible. Respect.
I think it's very fitting that the Revolutionary HQ of Minneapolis is a sex shop (that DOES NOT have a glory hole) and Revolutionary HQ of Saint Paul is a toy store where you can get Settlers of Catan.
