Happy to share that I've been accepted onto the @ukri.org Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Science Committee.

NERC is the UK's primary earth & env research funding agency. The committee advises on priority investment areas and policies to support the delivery of NERC's science strategy ⚒️

Last night satellite #Sentinel1C launched into space! It will join its sibling to restore the Sentinel-1 constellation, gathering more frequent, global, accurate data to monitor changes on the Earth's surface. It will aid COMET research into #volcanoes🌋and #earthquakes🌎 and support event response.

I love coming back to Indonesia, mostly because I get to work with some wonderful people. These guys are pushing the frontiers of DRR science in one of the most geohazard-prone countries in the world.

2024 is the 170th anniversary of the most famous public health story, John Snow and his map of cholera cases in Soho. You’ve likely heard how he heroically traced an epidemic to a single water source: the broad street pump. But that’s not how the story really ended…

This is a great figure. For all the doom & gloom about climate inaction, we have made a big dent over the past 25 years.

What started out as 3.5-4°C increase by 2100 is now down to 2-3°C. Of course, more work is urgently needed but this is progress! We don't let up now. h/t @hausfath.bsky.social

Hello scienceski! 🧪🪨I have a spatial map of a variable, and the 95% values either side of the expected value for each pixel. It's non Gaussian.

Any thoughts/ideas on a nice way to show these values that's not just three maps of the 2.5%, expected value and the 97.5%?

It’s a dreadful irony that for many of the 400 million people in sub-Saharan Africa who lack access to even a basic water supply, there is likely to be a significant reserve in aquifers sitting just a few metres below their feet.

A great piece by my colleague.🧪
