i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.
This is a real photograph of Washington, DC this week, where the United States president has ordered military occupation in peacetime, and ordered the display of colossal portraits of himself.

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.

When the dust settles, and if universities have meaningfully survived, it will be worth asking how institutions usually so resistant to thoroughgoing change chose to leap with both feet into an untested technology they didn't understand and didn't know how to use.
Universities doubling down as public sentiment shifts away from dependence upon AI. This is the problem with the buy-in.
The University of Michigan is now claiming that students have an ‘ethical responsibility’ to use AI.

The Ku Klux Klan Acts (passed in 1870 & 1871 to protect 14th amend rights) were particularly focused on masked gunmen who violated the civil rights of Black people. We should remember this history when masked law enforcement ofcrs are deployed in our communities.

I think what makes this thing so stupid is they're handing out tacos outside the RNC HEADQUARTERS. There are actually hungry people out there right now, every single thing costs a dollar more at the supermarket. RNC flaks will literally eat your lunch and send a masked man to round up your neighbor.
