I think about this quote from @georgemonbiot.bsky.social a lot:

“The idea that some people may freely poison others is one of the most astonishing but least contested aspects of modern life.”
We are being poisoned every day, so why do we keep voting for more pollution? Ask a lobbyist | George Monbiot
The dirty industries that dominate politics deceive us into accepting dangerous pollutants such as ammonia as part of life, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

The 2026 Budget Amendments tracker is updated to include pretty much everything, may need to make a few updates after the last of the budget amendments (and some revisions to previous amendments) are added to LIMS.

The White House’s insistence on using Sabrina Carpenter’s work and image to promote their crimes against humanity is also them appealing to their base, which already uses technology to try and humiliate and puppeteer the likenesses of women who have autonomy, success, and visibility in public

I enjoyed listening to the new mill city times podcast episode today! Fun to get to hear what some folks think in a format longer than a social media post.

Two things that stood out to me:

I mean the E line!! Instantly losing all my cred
One thing I think is interesting about the B Line is that it will be, to me, the first of the more* ‘white collar’ bus lines to become rapid transit. I often talk about how bus lines have different cultures & the culture on the 6 is a little more white & a little more bougie

Community isn’t something you show up to consume. It requires you to contribute, collaborate, and commit-create.

If you want community, you have to be community.

In other Hennepin Ave news some of us who were involved in project advocacy had our own little ribbon cutting a few weeks ago. The new street is a reminder that trying is cool & sometimes pals doing a lot of smart, consistent, unpaid work (I did just a small bit) results in something great

I haven’t read the article yet but this photo is so cute and shows how truly happy @aishaforward10.com and I were to see this city project succeed and come through to fruition for our people on either side of Hennepin 🙏

BREAKING: At Pope Leo XIV’s urging, U.S. Catholic bishops just delivered the strongest rebuke of a sitting president in Church history — condemning Trump-Vance raids as “inhumane” and “dehumanizing” in a 216–5 vote.
NEW: At Pope Leo’s Urging, Bishops Issue Historic Rebuke of Trump’s Raids
Nearly all U.S. Catholic bishops united in Baltimore to denounce the Trump administration’s “inhumane” deportation campaign — a near-unanimous, unprecedented moral stand against a sitting president.

ending all 2029 discourse with this simple plan
here is the thrive mpls plan:

step 1: get more votes
step 2: win

Call me naive (fair!) but I find it sad (& not strategic) to fault folks for getting behind the candidate they found most inspiring. People did their best. We didn’t win. It stinks a lot!

I think the not having juice point is a really good one. For myself, I went into this year thinking Cashman wouldn’t need as much help this time & I could go all in on Koski. How foolish I was! I also think there are some real juice sappers that brought me down & would bring others down too
2. Blaming the far-left for rallying around a candidate who matched their values is dumb. It wasn’t like they didn’t support the slate.
3. The real blame might be folks a lot like Eric Roper, or me … center-lefties. We never recovered from Koski leaving to lift up Davis/Hampton. We had no juice.

Absolutely right.

Thankfully, I haven't seen a lot of this yet. Instead, I have seen a progressive movement hopeful, energized, stronger and more united than ever before. Sure, there was some doom and gloom. But there was also a lot of people ready for what's next.
Last municipal/mayoral election people on the left spent months tearing each other down & apart for their voting, volunteering, running, & donation choices. It created lasting rifts in our movement & keeps us all down. I will not be participating in this at all.

Nope. With parks I am already seeing ‘If person A hadn’t run, person B would have won.’ Maybe! who knows. Maybe person B would have won if person A hadn’t run. Maybe none of it would have made a difference. Impossible to say.

Shaffer raised $248,377.66 and got 6709 votes - that's $37 per vote she spent
This is who we have representing us now, ward 7. Keep an eye on your favorite cafe or it might be replaced by a McCafe.

And make sure Shaffer hears from you often. We don't have to make her job easy.

Katie - you're still the CM in my heart! Can't wait to see what you do next. 🧡😭
Who's funding Elizabeth Shaffer's quarter-million-dollar city council campaign? 🍟👀

Please share with the ward 7 residents in your life!
