really important to emphasize that roberts' view of the executive branch as comprising a single individual is literally contradicted by the text of the constitution itself
“What America is witnessing is a remaking of the American presidency into something closer to a dictatorship,” Peter M. Shane argues. That project is the work of Chief Justice John Roberts:
How John Roberts Built the New American Presidency
The country is witnessing the creation of an all-powerful institution, and one man is responsible.

Scoop: The Wall Street Journal is working on a story highlighting Donald Trump’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein—but is said to be facing pressure from the White House, with Trump himself calling Editor-In-Chief Emma Tucker to object.

The thing to understand is that district court judges have to follow the law and Supreme Court Justices get to just make up the law.

An unelected, unconfirmed neo-Nazi is running the government.

Steven Miller is the one ordering the arrest of innocent people. Steven Miller is the one ordering the creation of concentration camps. Steven Miller is the one sending armed paramilitaries into the streets of our nation's cities.

Once again, this is a massive public jobs program for fascists.

This bill was never just about tax cuts and gutting social services. It's about investing our collective resources in violence and using state power to spread fear and destroy solidarity. We need to resist this with all we've got.
I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Historic disgrace.
and there it is. Trump's big bill is through Congress and ready to be signed into law tomorrow.

He proposes releasing some ICE prisoners to labor on farms where the employers will “own them” and be responsible for them.

Historians have spent decades meticulously proving the straight line between slavery and modern capitalism’s concept of the laborer—or we could just let them say it.
The camp is to filter out workers for Trumps new Slavery policy where he sells them to businesses.
He says so in this video

Their accusations are always confessions.
Very striking how every right-wing conspiracy freakout was just a prophecy of what they planned on eventually doing - whether it was Jade Helm or FEMA camps, the moment they had the opportunity to make these imaginary monstrosities they came up with come to life, they did

Imagine loving freedom so much you buy fan merch for a prison
I guess the Republican Party got sick of other people getting rich off their rubes, so they're just going to make their *own* Camp Auschwitz merchandise and cut out the middleman.

This. I think we’re well past comparisons to what Orbán has done to Hungary, for example. We’re more along the lines of Germany in the 1930s.
Where we are is really dark. Really dark.

You live in a country that is establishing concentration camps & soon will be stripping citizens of their papers.

This is the totalitarianism Arendt warned about.
Trump calls for deporting US citizens: "We also have a lot of bad people that have been here for a long time ... many of them were born in our country. I think we ought to get them the hell out of here too, if you want to know the truth. So maybe that'll be the next job."

Thom Tillis is reminding us that every Republican despises Trump, but they are all so beholden to his base that they will spend their political lives falling prostrate before him, even knowing the irreparable harm they are doing.

They are all traitorous cowards.

Let's be clear that this will be deployed not just against immigrants, but against anyone seen as providing support to immigrants.

Illegal support at first, but the definition will inevitably expand to include indirect support, mutual aid, and eventually even rhetorical support.
With this budget, ICE alone would have nearly as large a detention operation as all 50 states' prison systems combined. Bigger budget than the Marine Corps. Police-state levels of spending
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.
