We had our monthly union meeting at my Federal job today and I think there were a few people who *just* found out that the leopard they love so much is absolutely planning to eat their face.
So, the same parent company that employs (employed?) these bozos just took a hacksaw to the political coverage at Teen Vogue?

God forbid any of these media conglomerates do actual journalism I guess.
okay so here’s the actual bad part of the article

“oh it never affected my coverage” horse and also shit

and what the fuck is Lizza doing sitting on this while RFK takes a buzz saw to American health so he can sell substack subscriptions

And it's THREE YEARS after the disastrous deal from Alex Acosta. They are discussing their personal knowledge in context where they think they are immune from further prosecution. This isn't an "allegation"; this is an admission by co-conspirators.
Devin, I don't think many non-lawyers understand just how "yeah, that underlying fact's 100% true" it is when you have a private email between two parties with no reason to lie discussing the implications of something they agree is a fact they both have personal knowledge of.

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:

A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

Huh well it turns out I heard from a few federal workers about this and well

"We civil servants organized to help our colleagues face the hardship of the shutdown, we put up with the pain and our only request was to not be betrayed like this. Trade our pain, make it count."

For a bit I forgot that the current political movement was won with a weak minority and is managed by annoying dorks who nobody likes who have terrible vibes. This video has 1.3 million likes and is a good reminder that better things are possible, even for those of us outside NYC. A good night!

thank you for the outpouring of support!

those of us laid off from Teen Vogue yesterday are now sharing our GoFundMe to help us cover our emergency expenses now that we've lost our incomes, as we get back on our feet.

Chicago Pope is going to say some things we all dislike because he is the Pope and still very Catholic but he is spending enough time poking directly at the worst Catholics alive that I’m ready to put him in the Pretty Good For A Pope bucket already

also the sports jersey thing is incredibly funny
why would he come for online trads like this

New buck-wild symptom just dropped, I woke up with a splitting headache, what sort of felt like a clogged ear, and a total lack of balance/vertigo such that I could barely walk. Yay!

Luckily, a half-day long nap seems to have done the trick, since it was probably just a weird migraine.

Heist movies always come up with the most elaborate, fantastical ways to steal stuff (moving gold bars through rush hour in LA through old water tunnels, literally any Oceans movie, etc) but then real life art crime is just....this. www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/1...

Vaccination saves lives. And even if it "just" allows you to be less sick than you would otherwise be; trust me that having joint pain so severe that all you can do is curl up and suffer is worth taking preventative measures for.

(Yes, that's true for kids too. Even the neurodivergent ones!)
Chikungunya comes from the Kimakonde for contortion, because of its tendency to force people to curl up in agony. In my experience, that is the natural outcome of all isolationist policies.

Yes, this is another fund public health/end the shutdown/etc. post. But more than that, it is a plea for a “one world” approach to problems that are truly global.

But if you really care about this and are worried, you need to support action in places where chik is endemic. Just because NYC is threatened, some people will now take this seriously. But if we had a functioning CDC that participated in global response, NYC likely wouldn’t have seen cases.

I also have a couple other vaccines to finish renewing ALL of my vaccinations. Because the irony of anti-vaxxers being in charge is that it makes me MORE likely to get vaccines.

Much like every form of long-acting or permanent birth control have flown off the shelves for some reason.
There is another version, VIMKUNYA, which uses a virus-like particle. And if this infestation spreads, we’re going to need it.

The live attenuated vaccine I got is also no longer available here in the US. Why? Because there have been some incidents with older adults who were administered it outside the guidelines. It got paused, recertified, then decertified by the FDA in an odd back and forth.

Important take aways: (1) NO, NO, NOT AGAIN (jk), (2) there's a vaccine for this one so talk to your doctor, and (3) a lack of a functional, national-level public health agency has already lost their ability to effectively reply to threats like these (even though this is not a *novel* virus).
Ok, so this is a very big deal. Let’s thread it.
New York health officials have confirmed the first locally transmitted case of the chikungunya virus which causes high fever, joint pain and fatigue.

It’s usually a tropical virus, but there are now infected mosquitoes spreading in New York. (NYT)

There's something really weird about watching a writer on Youtube having an AI character generator sponsor their videos, because sure, you can create your own OCs and have them talk to you, but you're also voluntarily turning over your copyrighted material to them.

That chant is a banger. Now we gotta get it to the front lines on the Portland front, where it can be shouted by someone wearing an inflatable dinosaur suit.
“One of the chants that has become ubiquitous at these protests at Broadview is, ‘Love your neighbor, love your God, save your soul and quit your job,’” said Black, who pastors at the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago. “Everybody chants that.”

The pastors’ efforts are part of rising faith-based pushback to the Trump administration as the president seeks to implement plans for mass deportation of immigrants.

“Of course, they never said a word of warning to parents who now suffer with love for their injured children.”

I don’t know who this anonymous source but what a WILD way to talk about being a parent of a disabled child. SUFFERING with love.
