Some screenshots from itp_chicago IG. You can see how federal agents stake their presence around some of these communities in intersections in the middle of traffic and sidewalks in front of businesses. This feels very particular to the SW Side with Little Village being a prime target for this.

This South Side Weekly report on the Chicago building raid is well worth reading. Most striking to me are the indications of collusion between federal authorities and the building owner and management to effect a mass eviction at the blighted property. southsideweekly.com/federal-agen...

I am grieving for the families across the city who have been separated today and for the many communities facing this campaign designed to terrorize and abuse our neighbors based on the color of their skin and the places they may have been born. Grateful for local journalists & orgs sharing info.
Kidnappings across Chicago’s Northwest Side, Bronzeville, Cicero and suburbs; DHS confirms 37 arrests in South Shore apartments raid • The TRiiBE
A day after federal officers swarmed an apartment building in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood, agents returned to the South and West sides on Wednesday

This broadside was printed by Benjamin Franklin Roberts, a Black printer who sued Boston after his 5yo daughter, Sarah, was excluded from her local elementary school.

Roberts lost the case, but was part of the movement that succeeded in integrating Boston's public schools in 1855.

The same Supreme Court that said it is unreasonable to consider race when giving kids access to education, has said it's reasonable to consider race when looking to remove someone from the country.

Funny how that works.

This week has been an adventure in juggling spreadsheets and figuring out how to have 2-3 people be in 5-10 places at the same time for the start of 30-50 classes each day over 10-12 hours...

We're getting our steps in and my knees are feeling it. 🏃‍♀️📊🏃‍♀️🗓️🏃‍♀️🕕🏃‍♀️ 😮‍💨

I forgot until the end of the day (a very long day running around trying to fix all the things) I'd chosen these socks today.

I only verged on expressing this emotion once in a meeting today, though it may have been simmering at other times.

I'll take that as a win, I guess?

Between all the data being removed from core gov't sites, firings, and policies controlling what agency scientists and/or grant funded studies can cover and/or where they can publish, "do your own research" is only going to get more and more dangerous. Plus default AI in so many search results... 🫣
Can confirm that my NSF grant "How False Beliefs Form & How to Correct Them" was cancelled today because it is "not in alignment with current NSF priorities" Shocking that understanding how people are misled by false information is now a forbidden topic. Our work will continue but at a smaller scale
NSF has posted an “update on priorities.”

They’re canceling all “DEI and misinformation/disinformation” grants.

And the guidance on how to fulfill the longstanding, legally mandated Broadening Participation requirement is utterly incoherent.

LA is real America.
Chicago is real America.
Philly is real America.

Like, 75% of Illinois' population lives in the Chicago metro area, we are the heart and soul of the state! Same goes for the US at large!

As well as all of our structures of societal support and safety regulation that have been gutted from the federal government
If you burn down a forest, you don't miss out on lumber for just that season. You have to replant all the trees, nurture them, and wait for them to grow.

The science and research budget cuts happening now are wanton, senseless arson. Recovery, if it ever happens, will take generations.

How have we not learned this yet??

At least we can add a comment - it only takes a minute to do so!

"In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

Always baffles me when someone said “I didn’t hear about that when I was a kid.” Of course you didn’t. You were a child. You hadn’t heard of most things. I didn’t know who Paul Newman was when I was a kid, that doesn’t mean he didn’t exist.

Thanks to regular reports on the progress of the cherry blossoms in Chicago's Jackson Park by @ericallixrogers.com, we had a lovely hanami picnic today - it will get busier as more of the trees reach full bloom, but it was sunny and quiet today and we had a great time.

UPDATE: ICE is wildly unconcerned about where this man is and no one will tell me, his registered attorney. The universal answer so far is "let's wait and see where he ends up." This is deeply off.

We would have more rights at this point if UPS had lost a pair of shoes I'd just bought from Zappos
My detained client was scheduled for a bond hearing this AM in a MA immigration court. He wasn't brought in, and he and his case have disappeared.

I then received this notice of activity on a nonexistent docket in which his name was changed to "N/A"

It's all happening a lot faster than I expected

Just so everybody understands, Booker has been speaking cogently about the issues the entire time and Strom Thurmond famously spent hours reading from the encyclopedia, because segregationists were and are dumbshits
If Sen. Cory Booker makes it to 7:19 p.m. EST, he will break segregationist Dixiecrat Strom Thurmond's record for his 24 hour 18 minute Senate floor speech against the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

It's strange celebrating anything happening in politics, but I love the way @booker.senate.gov is giving credit to the hard work his staff did to prepare for today, the clarity with which he is continuing to stick to the point and invite anyone of any party to step up too
